Yes, the system is vulnerable to attack from short range weapons and has to be protected by separate systems to intercept them. I believe the systems to defend against short range missiles only recently became available. Also, if it can only engage 80 missiles at a time, then it can be destroyed by targeting it with 81 missiles. It is an excellent system that raises the cost of an attack but doesn't prevent it.
