This express provision of the constitution debunks the illogical claim that the 2nd amendment was written to protect citizens from the government they elected. It states "To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the nation, suppress insurrections, and repel invasions."

The founding fathers believed in the ballot box, not armed resistance to the government they just created. They expressly gave congress the power to crush people who refused to abide their democratically elected government.

Government.

This is what galls me. MANY folks completely ignore the context in which the Constitution was written.

They couldn't speak against the Monarchy.
They were forced to participate in the State run Anglican Church.
They were over taxed.
They were FORCED to house troops of the Crown.

One CANNOT interpret the Constitution apart from the context of the years and the Federalist Papers.
