Are conservatives smarter than liberals?

Every day on this board we seem to have threads about 'how stupid are libs?', 'dimbocrats', 'typical liberal stupidity'....you know the drill.

The strange thing is, I don't see a lot of posts claiming the opposite. Some comments, sure, but I think most people will agree that there are far, far more posts labelling liberalism as being in some way stupid, a mental illness etc than there are posts about conservatism claiming the same superiority.

I don't get this at all - I see no link between political views and intelligence. I've met some brilliant socialists, a couple of brilliant fascists, and everything in between. I have met enough painfully stupid liberals and painfully stupid conservatives that I don't think either side are in too great a position to start claiming a monopoly on smarts.

Isn't claiming 'liberalism is a mental illness' the kind of Catch 22 comment that only an intellectual dwarf could assume?

Or is there a reason that some conservatives believe they are intellectually superior?

We are discussing USA politics, not Capitalism. NO, Cons today don't believe in "entitlements" such as food/shelter/education/health. They OPENLY want to cut/end these programs.

I tend to agree, AntiParty....particularly when someone starts a thread entitled something like 'liberals are this stupid' I wonder if it is arrogance or incredible insecurity that leads them to do it. Or maybe some people just like to get a reaction, I guess.

It's just a manifestation of the inferiority complex white Republican southern evangelicals have had since the 60's revolution...kind of overflowing onto all white conservatives that lack college degrees

It's not the "side". Political partisan ideologues on both ends behave that way. A key pathology of partisan ideologues is their need to convince themselves that anyone who dares to disagree with them is "dumb". No. Every day you see liberals ( like me) telling specific conservatives here that they are intellectually inferior. This is based on their comments here. That is not the same thing at all. The OP makes a valid point. There are conservatives here who think that they are smarter than every living liberal.

I do not think you are dumb. You and I disagree on many things. Does that mean that I am not a partisan ideologue or does it mean that your take on this question is inaccurate?

There are many conservatives who are very bright. Even a few posting at the USMB.

If you truly have substance in a debate, you don't resort directly to "You are stupid!"......you simply use your substance.

When someone holds the debate "You are stupid" EVERYONE knows they lost the debate.

The Left Wing media today is applauding the Chinese people for fighting for their individual rights to protect them from a Government using them as profit drones. Occupy is strong in China today. If you even know what Occupy is....

"Occupy" is even stronger in Tibet.

I was under the impression that the 'occupy' movement in the US was directed at the 'evil' rich 1%. I think Chinese and Burmese protesters are anti government policy.

Many Cons believe food/shelter/education/health are not entitlements and should be earned.

My impressin of conservatives on this board is that their approach to discussion is infantile. The name calling is way over the top. I believe this is because of the influence on them of folks like Rush Limbaugh. The conservatives seem to think his style of rhetoric is an acceptable style of serious political and social discussion. It isn't.
