I always thought it was cool. A lot of the old comedians were raised on it, apparently, the eastern European ones.

I love Yiddish!

Anybody watch Northern Exposure? Listening to Dr. Fleischman explaining Yiddish stuff to Marilyn Whirlwind, his Alaskan Native assistant was hilarious!

.

That was a great show; good writing and cast. Wish they would rerun that series here. The Retired astronaut, the hermit Chef, and the Eskimo secretary were my favorite characters.

I abhor language phonies...Italians who know a dozen words in Italian and pretend to actually speak the language, same for Hispanics, and same for jews. Most jews know a few words of Yiddish and they pretend to speak it.

Don't be a putz.

I once had a Jewish girlfriend who tried to explain to me the difference between a schlemiel and a schlimazel. As far as I can tell, the schlemiel is the inept clumsy waiter who trips and spills the soup, and the schlimazel is the chronically unlucky person who gets the soup spilled on him.
