And so it begins- Romney the Job Killer

You mean just like the media digging up everything Newt has ever said about anything?

I hate to break it to you, but a businessman will fire people. Most people understand that. What people don't understand is someone saying we should arrest judges who make decisions a candidate disagrees with, or women can't serve in the military because they get diseases in ditches, or people who smoke pot should be electrocuted, or the government should build giant mirrors in space to better illuminate the night highways, or we should hire 9 year-olds, and so on, and so on, and so on, and so ...

He didn't just "fire" people..he fired everyone. Then offered the younger workers their jobs back with less wages and no benefits.

That's pretty dramatic.

Sallow, I asked you this question in another thread about this same issue:

If you bought a failing company, what would you do to make it productive?

Romney makes his business background part of his case for why he should be elected president,

why shouldn't it be scrutinized?

I personally have no problem with it.

I just don't think it will help him if they do.

He's a guy who never wanted for anything in his life making more money by putting folks out of jobs.

It's not a good image, and I think the GOP will be making a huge mistake running him.

This is why I think Perry would have been a stronger candidate. He grew up poor on a farm, worked his way through college, served in the military... His backstory is a lot more "everyman". Even Newt has a pretty humble origin story.

Romney is another rich guy trying to buy the presidency... and other than the Bush's and the Kennedy's, that doesn't sit well with a lot of people.

Well, I wouldn't pay myself millions of dollars in management fees, like Romney did.

Gingrich is already sinking like an anchor. He's done.

Once Gingrich gets elected, he is going to round-up all the liberals and make them wear diapers. You people have no idea what lies ahead. Gingrich makes Nixon look like a puppy dog. Bill Clinton is going to have to sleep in the Panic Room and wear a Kevlar vest whenever he goes in public.

Gingrich will use the Feds like Bush - to hunt political enemies. . . a la KGB. How do you think the Bush Fed got Spitzer? ...who was waging a huge public war against the Bush administration for their role in the Wall Street meltdown.

Why Bush Watergated Eliot Spitzer

Gingrich represents the culmination of Rightwing Dirty Politics. He inherited the entire Nixon infrastructure. Just wait until he takes over Washington. There will be a vague terrorist event and then the whole country will be issued biometric ID cards. Gingrich has promised to bring back the War on Terrorism on steroids. He wants to double the size of Homeland Security - remove all judicial oversight - and increase the surveillance power of the Patriot Act by 200%. You people have no idea what is coming. God help us all.

After Newt gets done with him, Romney will be naked in a ditch, wearing a Kentucky Fried chicken bucket over his head. I cannot believe the Right is going to elect a career Washington Insider.

Horseshit. That's an obvious case of age discrimination. The laid off older workers would sue for that.

You're obviously just making stuff up.

I personally don't have a problem with businessmen closing plants that don't make money and laying people off. If inefficient plants were never closed, our economy would stagnant. One thing that makes capitalism superior to socialism is that the former has an effective means of getting rid of waste and inefficiency. Of course, that same thing is one reason why a lot of people hate capitalism.

That's also a gross exaggeration.

Bain Capital was known as a "growth capital" firm. That's how they made their name. Growth capital firms provide capital to growing firms, firms that are hiring people. Joe the Hater will pull out the Ampad card every opportunity he gets, but tally up all the people his firms hired against those that were fired. FFS, Jack Welch fired tens of thousands of people, and he is generally thought of as perhaps the finest CEO of his time.

Uh-uh. This economic climate might be enough to cook him, but it's pretty much the only real problem he has.

With the quality of the opposition, he still has a chance.

There is nothing wrong with the opposition because the extremists like Bachmann, Santorum, etc aren't going to be nominated. They're irrelevant to this discussion.

Like James Carville once wisely stated, "It's the economy, stupid."

Newt has an army of mudslingers that is unprecedented in world history.

Really? From where?

I don't think Gingrich is even on the ballots in MO and OH. He has a skeletal staff. He has no money. Few of the people who worked for him or knew him well are supporting him. You can count the number of endorsements Gingrich has of ranking Republicans on your fingers.

I'll take a chance with the hiring/firing guy more so than with the crazy guy.

All the Obama campaign will have to do will be to play Newt saying things on a continuous 24/7 loop.

"That's the guy you want with his finger on the button?"

Yeah, right.

Jimmy Carter tried that same shit with Ronald Reagan. And Reagan did even occassional say some goofy things.

Didn't work then.

I think you might get your way... Gingrich is declining... but Romney is still stuck under 25%...

And if you can't get Repulicans excited about this guy, how are you going to get anyone else excited?

Obama's folks... They are excited.

really?

You notice how they always trot out Reagan but never trot out Goldwater?

He doesn't have "business smarts". He inherited a bundle and found a gimmick to make a lot more. He now gets a pension of $13MIL a year - just from breaking small businesses and firing the employees. Its that pension that makes him a Regular Guy, Just One Of The Little People.

Barring the late entry of someone with a blood pressure and pulse (sorry, that excludes - shudder - Ole Man Cheney), Romney will most certainly be the candidate - BECAUSE he will be very easy for Big Money to control.

If that happens, the joke will be on the poor pubs/bags because Romney was a lib when it suited him and is now a con, because it suits him. Who knows what he'll be tomorrow.

Even the less extreme ones have their problems. He still has a chance.

Well, of course he has a chance. A lot can happen in a year, but I find it very unlikely the economy will improve with any significance by then.

I knew it wouldn't take long for the MSM to dredge up every person who got fired by Bain..

Friend, Romney will not survive the Gingrich machine.

Newt has an army of mudslingers that is unprecedented in world history. I'm not just talking about Drudge - I'm talking about a battalion of people who don't sleep. They are going over EVERYTHING Romney has EVER done. If there is footage of Mitt Romney doing weird stuff in a Massachusetts Turnpike bathroom from 1986, the Gingrich dirt machine will find it.

(You gotta love how much faith and trust Republicans have in their leaders: "Newt would never do that")

Friend, Gingrich is a lifer. He is a professional politician. He is the biggest Washington insider who has ever run for the presidency. He is an insider's insider. He is the darkness reaching out for the darkness. He comes straight from the Nixon cannon. He is the Rightwing equivalent of Lyndon Baines Johnson. He will eat Romney alive.

You people are so naive. You have no clue about hardball politics. Gingrich is the dirtiest, nastiest, toughest political monster in generations.

When the Dirt Machine goes into action, the game is over.

Romney is going to be obliterated - not by MSNBC, but by professionals.

Sit back and watch.

God Help Romney. God Help Him.

lol with the overdramatics jeez

A couple of problems I have with this...

First if everyone does it, then you don't have a middle class to spend, therefore no base to support business.

Second- Age discrimination is rampant in this society, and you know it. Last job, when they laid everyone off, the people who got laid off were all 40 or older.

They kept everyone who was 39 or less.

You notice how they always trot out Reagan but never trot out Goldwater?

If you mean by "they", those of us who don't think we can win with a liberal, let's look at that.

Who does Obama look more like right now. LBJ or Carter? If you are going to go with historical comparisons, use apt ones.

The whole Goldwater argument is that if the GOP had ONLY run Nelson Rockerfeller instead of Barry Goldwater, they could have really won in 1964.

Which is bullshit. No way LBJ was going to lose in 1964. The economy was going gangbusters, we were at peace, (Vietnam wouldn't start in earnest for another year) the President was enormasly popular and was wearing the mantle of a martyred JFK.

No, Goldwater lost because he didn't have an argument to make. If Goldwater had asked the "Reagan Question", - are you better off than you were four years ago- nearly everyone would have said, "Absolutely!" He was president of America's Zenith. There's a reason why we so romanticize "Camelot" today, because we've been in decline ever since.

If Romney asks the Reagan Question, the answer might well be, "Probably not, but guys like you got us into this mess to start with!"

Newt isn't Reagan. Neither is Perry nor Bachmann nor Santorum nor Cain nor Trump nor whomever you want to analogize. So please stop making that comparison. Quayle used to say that "they used to say that about Reagan" when referring to himself as a candidate who couldn't win. Guess what? Nobody says "They said that about Quayle!"

You can keep saying it and it still won't make it so. Romney was never a lib, not even close. he moderated some positions to get elected. This is MA, you aren't going to get elected as a Republican running as a hard core conservative. Sorry, never going to happen.

And LOL at your description of Bain and their business. Some of you really should get a clue, just some clue about the subject matter you post.
