What's wrong is that there is not a single system for defining who is and is not allowed to purchase or possess firearms. Even the NICS system does not have the information it's supposed to have, never mind the information that would be useful.

Until we have a singular system that protects the Right of American Citizens to bear arms while at the same time ensuring that guys like this do not have access to firearms for this type of attsck.

Unfortunately that balance is almost impossible to create in this country.

I'm not exactly a gun nut kinda guy, but I'm not sure that I'm ok with denying the right to buy a gun to people on the "watch list". The problem is due process.

I have a friend - a guy I grew up with - who ended up on a "watch list" because someone else that shared his rather common Arabic name, and it took him nearly 6 years of bullshit and bureaucracy (and thousands of dollars in legal fees) to get it fixed.
