And here is the reason gun control will become a hot issue thanks to the massacre....

Gun control is an issue after every shooting, never let a crisis go to waste. They will whine and wail, it will die down...until the next shooting
Allowing Muslim terrorists the ability to purchase guns isn't something to "whine" about?

You can't stop it....there are 0, AR-15s in France, 0, Fully automatic weapons in France, you can't buy them in stores, you can't own them, they are completely illegal over there.....there are no background checks because law abiding people can't own them at all.....France has extreme gun control with far fewer civil rights than we have....and their criminals get these guns easily when they want them, and of course actual terrorists, on their government terrorist watch lists got fully automatic weapons and murdered 140 people and injured hundreds of others............

Gun control laws will not stop determined terrorists or criminals....especially the ones who plan on dying....

Figure out a way to determine which Muslim is the terrorist. Or the white guy who is mental....or the black guy who is mad at the white guy...I could go on but it's impossible. With that said I don't understand how this shooter in Orlando was investigated at least twice by the FBI and then this happens. There is a problem
It is a tough situation to be sure but we need to try to do something. Simply throwing our arms up & giving up because it's hard is not an option.

AMERICA HAS A CHOICE

WE CAN VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE THAT WANTS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT MASS SHOOTINGS

OR

WE CAN VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE THAT OFFERS THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AND NOTHING ELSE

Yeah......exactly who is offering doing something about mass shootings?

Considering this...

France has all of the gun control you want.......and they can't stop criminals or terrorists from getting guns...the fully automatic kind that are completely illegal, and completely inaccessible to normal French people....which genius politician is going to stop it....?

The problem we have is found in the elasticity of the gun nut argument.

When it comes time to discuss measures to make it more difficult for nuts to obtain weapons that can kill masses of people quickly.....the gun nuts revert to the "freedom" argument. You know....the one where they claim we need easy access to such firepower in order to keep tabs on the government and prevent tyranny. Yep....the real Second Amendment.

These are two different things. But....gun nuts who are afraid of their own shadow pretend that they are not.

If you are honest with yourself, you will admit that there is only one reason that a person would want a military style, rapid fire weapon.

Until we have a singular system that protects the Right of American Citizens to bear arms while at the same time ensuring that guys like this do not have access to firearms for this type of attsck.

Unfortunately that balance is almost impossible to create in this country.

No shit. When you have the NRA and assholes like our very own 2nd A poster, it ain't gonna happen. They won't talk about it, consider it or even admit it's a problem.

Tell us genius......how did France's gun laws stop their muslim terrorist shooter...they have absolutely everything you want with even less civil rights on top of that........you guys have no clue what you are talking about....

3,750,000 AR-15s in private hands and 1 was used illegally to commit a crime.......everyone else uses their AR-15 responsibly.......and you want to take their guns...for 50 people...

Cars accidentally kill 35,000 people every single year.....and you guys don't want to ban them...you know...to save lives...

You tell us asshole. Millions of gun in the USA and we lead the world in mass shooting of innocent people.

So come on asshole what the fuck difference does having guns (the USA) vs. not having guns (France) make. Masses of people still got shot.

Come on dude. What fucking difference did it make in this last mass shooting? If there were 20 million AR 15 in this country, what fucking difference would it have made in the shooting that just happened?

Lot of.fucking good you gun nutters do. If you didn't have that 2.5 millions DGUs to cling to, you wouldn't have nothing.

Should we deny guns to those who make anti-gay threats?

Many, many posters on this board would qualify

One shooting like this makes the headlines, but we have been seeing shooting with only 2 to 5 victims on a weekly basis, sometimes 2 in a week. And the preferred weapons are rapid fire guns with high capacity magazines. And they are readily available here for just about anyone that wants one. How many more horrors will it take to realize that more guns on the street is not the answer.

At the same time you have masses who reject the basic concept that citizens have the Right (not privilege) to keep and bear arms. Some don't even believe the police should be armed.

Until acceptance of the basic RTKBA becomes a given, noting can be discussed.

Tell me why a person on terrorist watch list should be able to legally buy most any gun they want. Where in the 2nd A does it say anyone and everyone should be able to buy guns.

Good question. Does the FBI share this information? Is it readily available during background checks?

Omar S. Mateen, the shooter who killed 50 people and injured dozens more in Orlando, Florida on June 12 was a “person of interest” who the FBI had investigated, was briefly on a “terrorist watch list,” and beat his ex-wife, according to reports in the Washington Post and LA Times.

We need a system that would have rejected the sale of guns to an asshole such as this.

Ok, what do you suggest?

He was already being watched, even previously. Since he bought the gun legally, and had to go through a background check, how hard would it have been to flag him, not for denial of purchase, but for a follow up investigation, followed by a confrontational interview by the FBI or local law enforcement?

If the person is verified as being a potential threat they shouldn't be able to purchase firearms. HOWEVER, until the individuals on the No-Fly List actually start having good to be vetted to be added to the list, it's not an acceptable document to deny the RTKBA to American citizens.

I personally know 5-10 people who have been stopped because their names matched the name and generic information on the No-Fly list. That list must be combed through and much greater accuracy be expected before it's a useful tool.

And where is the guarantee that some locality won't place everyone on said list, and then force those people to spend months or years the courts to overturn it?

The terrorist had been tied to a KNOWN suicide bomber & had been under FBI investigation TWICE. Once in 2013 & once in 2014.
Terrorist ties.
Terroristic threats
Ties to a suicide bomber

Yet he was allowed to buy guns..... WHAT IN THE FUCK is wrong with our system?
And here I thought you were going to cite the body count. 50 dead? How is that possible without an assault rifle?

Exactly. That's why the no-fly list needs to be reworked to require more proof and far more identifying info.

this stuff isn't that simple gramps. While I understand what you are saying, think of the statism that would take place in order to have actually stopped this.. Not to mention the black market as well... More regulation, more criminals.
The guy had been under investigation, but we cant strip rights for thought crimes!
But I do agree the system is fucked up. In more ways than 50.
