In fact, the modern republic is more or less an exact copy of the Roman Republic. This shameful period was after the glorious patrician Rome and before Rome slipped into imperial slavery and huckstering.
It is possible to draw absolutely direct parallels to all branches of government, and predict the same result - shameful slavery.
Of course the US Fathers did not want this fate, so they created a patrician Rome - the Articles of Confederation. But the infamous Washington made a plebeian coup, and the republican form was adopted.

In the Roman Republic there were a lot of comedians for the plebeians, they had the same stupid "English" humor as you have, and there were also a lot of perverts, everything is like now.
