Amazon threatens to move jobs out of Seattle over new tax

Getting rid of Amazon will make Seattle a better place to live. Most amazon employees can't afford to live in Seattle anyway, so nobody cares if they leave. This is just a fake outrage piece, aimed at morons.

Obviously being unemployed is better

Actually it is. What's the advantage to anybody else when some scumbags pay far less than the cost of living? It only prolongs the crash, and requires subsidies for the business itself.

Yep, not having a job and living off of breadcrumbs as handouts from the elite is so much better

What Amazon pays is bread crumbs. A distinction without a difference. Wages are just supposed to be voluntary handouts, according to right wing ideology. Bosses are only supposed to pay what they feel like paying, right?

I agree. It's much better for Amazon's employees to be unemployed parasites leaching off of the labors of others than having a job.

Yes, Wall Street and right wingers do indeed provide the best examples of that being the road to the highest rewards in our economy, true enough. No reason for the unwashed proles not to follow their successful model of acceptable economic policies, is there?

How so? ..... :dunno:

Fewer low income people hanging around, using govt. services, living on the streets, adding to traffic jams, pollutiion, strains on infrastructure, etc. What every 'libertarian' and right winger wants.

I can see why the local sado-masochists and sociopaths will miss them , though.
Welfare creates wealth....Pelosi tol me so....

Works great for Wall Street and the 'globalists'. Are you claiming it doesn't?

Lefty liberals seem to always bite the hand that feeds them.

They just can't help it. ..... :cuckoo: ....

Really, the Southern Jobs have come about due to subsidies that liberals taxes fund. Keep laughing because we know you love that kind of socialism! :10:

But, Amazon is not leaving Seattle.

Yep. Plus, the high cost of living in Seattle means fewer and fewer workers can afford to live there and work for sweatshop wages, which means they have to move somewhere else, where the labor pool is larger, and ask for subsidies to boot. The entire West Coast is experiencing that effect, having to subsidize criminal illegal immigration as a substitute. That's the Left's job, carrying water for criminal illegal aliens and keeping the cheap labor flowing in. Of course they don't tell their puppets that's what going on; they like to be told all all about how they're 'Killing Whitey N Stuff', as if that's who takes such crap jobs. lol they're useful idiots.

Every liberal elitist stronghold around this country become too expensive to live in. The people who liberals claim they want to help, are the first ones chased away because they cannot afford to stay.

Really? Wages falling far behind inflation for decades has nothing to do with it, then? Fascinating. Wonder why Milton Freidman and others never noticed that ... oh, wait , they did .... they were just ignored, is all. 25 cents an hour is plenty for anybody, even after the all the fines and fees for stuff like rent for their barracks bunks, using the toilet, or passing out from malnutrition, getting a drink of water, all that stuff businessmen like to dock their workers pay for.

Pierce County just south of Seattle seems to be inviting businesses.

Take that, Seattle: Pierce County offering $275-per-new-job incentive to businesses

Texas has those kinds of corporate welfare gimmicks, too, the pool runs into the billions of bucks; so far hasn't paid for itself, and will be dumped soon. I guess because paying some company $10 million bucks just to bring in a few dozen part time retail jobs is too embarrassing even for our local corporate welfare fans in the GOP. They're back to peddling Texas' huge supply of criminal illegal aliens as a draw. This means that in the future the 'pro-business' types are going to have find ways to increase welfare in order to keep them here without raising their own taxes.

I don't see any GOP people supporting this. Who exactly supports corporate welfare on the right-wing?

Business of course loves hand outs.

But most of the people who support corporate welfare, are left-wingers. By far.

No..... and your comment is nonsensical.

Funny, that the South fully subsidizes their jobs and has to look to other states to fill those position because the local bumpkins don't have the skills in the first place. It's a bit because recruiting talent to move to less desirable, lackluster locations is a bitch in itself.

The Right To Work bullshit is dragging down America and forcing low wages. That's a topic that no one wants to touch. :113:

So, you think that refusing people the ability to work whatever job they want.... is bad.

Got it. Funny because the south is becoming the new manufacturing area of the US.

Well, if you tell someone they must pay a higher wage, they'll just move elsewhere, and then you'll be on here complaining about off-shoring.

You seem to think that someone companies are slaves to your whim, and that you can just jack up taxes and wages, regulations, and never have any effect on the market.

That's ridiculous. If I demand that every single oil change in the country was $100 per visit, people would stop using the service, and doing it themselves.

Similarly, if you make labor too expensive, they'll replace you with kiosks, or simply not provide the service.

Just look at what happened in Venezuela. The government treated companies like slaves, putting higher costs, and price controls, and even nationalizing companies.... and.... they have no jobs.

Look at Greece, they jack up taxes and wages, until companies simply stopped operating.

Look at France. They put in place a "wealth" tax, and had people closing down their companies, moving across the border into Belgium, Spain and Switzerland, to avoid the taxes. All the same people, doing all the same work, just right outside the country.

This is one of the reasons France has dramatically shifted right, pushing labor reform laws, and reduced taxes.

Your system does not work. Do not think that companies are slaves, because you will wake up unemployed, and wondering why the country is in dramatic decline.

Right now Apple Computer, makes more money outside the US, than inside the US. You make it unprofitable to be in the US, and the most iconic brand in US history, will end up being a Canadian or European company.

I would so love to see Amazon thumb their nose at Seattle and do this !

Warning issued after council votes for corporate wealth tax to help tackle city’s housing crisis

Amazon has threatened to move jobs out of its hometown of Seattle after the city council introduced a new tax to try to address the homelessness crisis.

The world’s second-biggest company has warned that the “hostile” tax, which will charge firms $275 per worker a year to fund homelessness outreach services and affordable housing, “forces us to question our growth here”.

Amazon, which is Seattle’s biggest private sector employer with more than 40,000 staff in the city, had halted construction work on a 17-storey office tower in protest against the tax.

Pressure from Amazon and other big employers, including Starbucks and Expedia, had forced councillors to reduce the tax from an initial proposal of $500 per worker. The tax will only effect companies making revenue of more than $20m-a-year
Let them leave if they can’t pay their workers

This story is not about salaries at Amazon. Read the article.

News flash : the world caught up to us finnaly after WWII and you fuckers want to bitch about trumps tariffs?

Seattle passed the $15/h min wage law. Can't bitch that Amazon doesn't pay enough when they pay exactly what they've been forced to pay. Yep, everyone told you idiots that if you increased the min wage the cost of living would just go up, but you dumbasses can't get it through your heads - even with a prime example like this one you're clueless.

Another reason the COL is so high in Seattle is massive regulations, especially on housing/building codes - they can't build anything new to accommodate the influx of employees because Seattle wants to keep everything untouched and "pretty." I hear their combined residential building code book is nearly 3k pages - that 3k pages of hoops to jump through in the hopes of making a profit - or developers can go 1k less miles and no hoops; hard choices...

Only 12k homeless you say? They're a sanctuary city, of course they have homeless; I'm surprised its so low frankly. And don't forget /why/ they want this head tax right? To house those homeless folks; citizen or not.

They're also planning to nail home owners to the wall with yet another property tax increase - to pay for free preschool for the low income and homeless folks - to the tune of $67,000 per child according to the /last time/ they increased property taxes to pay for free preschool.

Seattle is shaping up to be a perfect example of the failure of socialism "done right" but I'm sure the left will find excuses of how it's not socialism's fault.

Amazon recently got billions of dollars in tax breaks courtesy of the last tax bill. The homeless are saying 'hey brother, can you spare me a dime, and this guy bezos, with newfound taxpayer money running out of his bodily orifices, threatens to take his ball and go play elsewhere. Typical.

You don’t have to convince me. I completely agree that it’s far better for them to live off of the welfare state than have a job and be independent. Banana republics are models of order and efficiency. Let them eat cake.

Only a left-winger can actually think more unemployment, and fewer jobs, can make a place better.

Then when anyone actually tries left-wing belief, you end up with venezuela.

Escaping Venezuela: They pour into Brazil by the thousands looking for work

Left-wingers are the stupidest people ever. Only in left-wing land, do you smash your fingers with a hammer until they completely un-usable, and have them say you just didn't swing hard enough.

Why would they spare a dime? You not working, is not somehow an obligation on my part, to spare you a dime.

Amazon provides thousands on thousands of jobs. Instead of sitting on their butts, asking if you can spare dime, about about they apply and work one of the thousands of jobs Amazon is providing?

And what is this "new found tax money".

I earn a pay check. You TAKE money from my check. It's not "new found". It's MY FREAKIN MONEY.

Similarly, Amazon is who earn billions of dollars by providing a service and product people want. It's not "new found money", it's hard earned money, that you are trying to TAKE from Amazon, and then complaining about it if they don't.

By the way, don't sit there and pretend that somehow the government is worse off.

If Amazon leaves, Seattle will lose millions of dollars in tax revenue from all the employees that will no longer be earning a wage.

I'm guessing they also lose on stuff those employees will no longer have an income to buy, thus harming the economy.

If you think that Amazon pays zero tax on anything, and is somehow a magical drain on the local government, you are beyond crazy, and utterly economically illiterate.
