I would so love to see Amazon thumb their nose at Seattle and do this !

Warning issued after council votes for corporate wealth tax to help tackle city’s housing crisis

Amazon has threatened to move jobs out of its hometown of Seattle after the city council introduced a new tax to try to address the homelessness crisis.

The world’s second-biggest company has warned that the “hostile” tax, which will charge firms $275 per worker a year to fund homelessness outreach services and affordable housing, “forces us to question our growth here”.

Amazon, which is Seattle’s biggest private sector employer with more than 40,000 staff in the city, had halted construction work on a 17-storey office tower in protest against the tax.

Pressure from Amazon and other big employers, including Starbucks and Expedia, had forced councillors to reduce the tax from an initial proposal of $500 per worker. The tax will only effect companies making revenue of more than $20m-a-year

They moved a lot of those crappy low paying shit jobs here. Nobody here will complain if the sweatshop gimps closed down and left here, either. I find it funny there are people who think Amazon is a desirable employer. It's just sweatshop labor and pays poverty level wages. No shortage of those kinds of jobs; they make up over 90% of American job growth over the last 40 years. lol

Getting rid of Amazon will make Seattle a better place to live. Most amazon employees can't afford to live in Seattle anyway, so nobody cares if they leave. This is just a fake outrage piece, aimed at morons.

How so? ..... :dunno:

Fewer low income people hanging around, using govt. services, living on the streets, adding to traffic jams, pollutiion, strains on infrastructure, etc. What every 'libertarian' and right winger wants.

I can see why the local sado-masochists and sociopaths will miss them , though.

Have you forgotten who runs amazon?

Yup like we always said democrats are anti business they prove it everyday.

Replace the word "campaigners" with "Dimocrats":

"Campaigners said the company should be forced to take financial responsibility for Seattle’s cost of living, which has forced many families on to the streets. There are almost 12,000 homeless people in Seattle region, equating to the third-highest rate per capita in the US. Last year 169 homeless people died in Seattle. The city declared a state of emergency because of homelessness in late 2015"

I am so glad to see you say this. Yes, the 7000 employees at Amazon would much rather be unemployed than work for the pittance Amazon pays. Better have 7000 people in Texas suffering under those wages.

What an utterly stupid statement. Having those employees lose their jobs will not help the community. If they are low income and using public services now, think how much more they will need from the state when they are unemployed. In your pathetic attempt to slam big business you just made yourself look like an idiot.

I CALL BULLSHIT! You’re a douche bag liar unless you provide a link or links to support your assertion that 90% of job growth over the last 40 years was at poverty level jobs.

No link? Didn’t think so, liar.

Yea, but if Amazon leaves, another more socially conscious company will move in and pay those poverty stricken ex- Amazon employees millions. It will be so wonderful.

Lefty liberals seem to always bite the hand that feeds them.

They just can't help it. ..... :cuckoo: ....

Really, the Southern Jobs have come about due to subsidies that liberals taxes fund. Keep laughing because we know you love that kind of socialism! :10:

But, Amazon is not leaving Seattle.

Yes, some sweatshop operator, who started out with nothing but the shirt on his back, and a million or so from mom and dad, assisted along the way by more 'bridge loans'.

Why do you ask?

Obviously being unemployed is better

Actually it is. What's the advantage to anybody else when some scumbags pay far less than the cost of living? It only prolongs the crash, and requires subsidies for the business itself.
