Lest we forget
One year ago today twenty 6 and 7-year old innocent children were slaughtered at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut along with 6 of their teachers and staff. It was a Friday and the news dominated the day and the weekend. The rampage was only about 36 hours old when Saturday Night Live was scheduled to take the air. This is how the show opened, IMHO one of the most powerful moments I've ever seen on television:

Do I see.... Christmas Hammentaschen?

hammentaschen is jewish..... so not a christmas thing.... lol

Hey, when you're in love with Hammentaschen, the whole world is Jewish. And it's always Purim too. :coffee:

and if you are seeing a triangle in that mix.... you got some issues...... :lmao:

Oh I'm not picky about geometrics when confronted with pastry perfection. I see a soft fruity middle and I melt.

Issues?

Gesundheit.

Oy.

:D

You're right: no triangles.

To be fair, in Europe, bakeries sell a lot of things which may have Jewish origin.

Bakery window at Christmas in Fussen Germany

A bakery in Europe may sell hammenstaschen or something very similar, especially at Christmas when a large assortment of cookies and the like are offered. Just sayin'.

http://www.cheftalk.com/products/christmas-cookies-candies-and-cakes/articles Here is a Christmas cookie site that mentions Rugelach, a Jewish treat.

This site is all about Hamentashen Christmas cookies (one 'm' so not very German). I think, though they may be originally Jewish, they have been incorporated into our Christian festivities. :)

For the past ten years, I have usually spent Christmas in a European country. Also, before that, when I lived in Germany and Austria, total of 5 years, spent most Christmasses in those countries.

In Noo Yawk (Manhattan anyway) you can get 'em any day of any week.

I've had a secret ambition for as long as I can remember, to spend a Christmas in Germany. Just for one reason: the cookies. :eusa_drool:

True story.
