AG Hearings Today

Barr was asked about the emoluments clause.

Barr said he never read it and didn't know what was in it.

By this time, everyone knows what's in it since Trump has violated it again and again.

But the new AG has no idea what it says? Really?

Another day, another Democrat lie.

Their little tid-bit over Barr's memo will go nowhere. Surely they've penciled in a side fiction for when that fizzles.

It's not just Barr's memo, it's his history of viewing AG as simply president's lawyer.

Does a legal theory, where president can litteraly get away with murder because he is fully in control of the justice system, not bother you?

A lot of folks say that Bill and Hellary got away with murder, so does it only bother you when it’s a Republican?

Encouraging:

"Attorney General nominee William Barr: "I believe it is vitally important that the special counsel be allowed to complete his investigation." https://abcn.ws/2DbQKDC "

Oh sure, they will let him finish (as if thats an option), but as Gulianni said the strategy is currently to just burry/redact his findings

Time honored tradition in DC. All you can do when you’re in the minority is have the hearings and try to vet them as thoroughly as possible.

You can also box them in to certain statements and promises during the confirmation.

Once they are sworn in; the confirmation hearings and statements are pretty much worthless in terms of what they actually do in office.

Lying to Congress has weight and possible consequences.

Yeah…but unless you’re incredibly stupid, you point out the difference in what you said then and what you’re doing now. Seldom (if ever) can someone point to (for example) House Resolution blah blah blah in a confirmation hearing and have the nominee and eventually Departmental secretary have providence over that HR.

They discuss concepts during hearings. Concepts have textures and details.

A lot of folks are also rightwing conspiracy nuts.

But I've never heard of a legal theory being advanced by the left where Clinton could oversee an investigation of himself - which is a position where Republicans like Barr started landing after they got burned on Nixon and Reagan's contra.

If the left DID advance such a theory, you can rest assured I would be 100% against such Bannana Republic horseshit, as should you be.
