A turn for the worse, Kennedy to now

John F. Kennedy once said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". Powerful words and you can see them here,
John F Kennedy 'Ask not' - YouTube

Let us fast forward a few years and see a Kennedy generation child change those words into "How can we, as symbolically the children of the future president expect the the two of you, the three of you, to meet our needs......?" It can be seen here, 1992 Ponytail Guy Presidential Debate - YouTube

Every presidential political debate since Pony-Tail-Guy (I don't know his real name) has had questions about how the government is supposed to take care of people as opposed to how people take care of themselves or how people should control the government. A far distant or opposing position than Mr Kennedy held. And JFK was a liberal.

What the fuck has happened to this country? Why is it that some people somehow now think that the purpose of the federal government is to take care of them like some sort of nanny? Has the majority of voters decided that they want a "mommy" or "daddy" to take care of them? Vis-a-vis the federal government setting things like wages and health insurance mandates?

Grow up people, it's not the governments responsibility to make sure you have a home to live in, food on the table, medical care or anything else. It's your responsibility to provide for yourself and your family, not mine. Quit being fucking children.

It would have helped if you first understood what JFK was saying when he uttered those words.

John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address inspired children and adults to see the importance of civic action and public service. His historic words, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country,” challenged every American to contribute in some way to the public good.

shortly after he was elected when Obama was at his highest of highs he called for a civilian task force to come together and aid their fellow americans. looks like none of his democratic followers stepped up to the plate and were willing to give up their time
Actually, it works just fine, but you'll never hear anything good on the Pub Propaganda Machine, hater dupe. And of course Pubs won't pass any investment in our people or our infrastructure, both slowly ruined under Reaganism and destroyed by the BOOOSH DEPRESSION. HATER DUPES DON'T EVEN WANT TO PAY TAXES OR HELP THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS. BRAINWASHED HATERS. GREAT JOB, PUBBIES. SEE SIG PARA. 1.

What has changed? Two things come to mind: "It's your money" mentality has changed greed/avarice from a deadly sin into a virtue; and, Sears (for example) used to honor their Craftsman Tool for life and today wants to sell its customers an insurance policy to protect customers from a crappy product (in general business and industry have put profit over customer service).

Since Reagan Unions have been under attack and wages and benefits for the many have shrunk while salaries and benefits of the few have vastly increased.

Since Reagan compassion for the poor has been replaced by a "quit being fucking children" mentality, and assuming the poor are solely responsible for being poor (in other words, critical thinking and panoptic consideration for poverty are no longer part of problem identification).

^ Looks good in that ponytail

If we left taking care of disabled and elderly up to just volunteering and private organization there would be a lot of abused homeless disabled and elderly people.
Really? That's how it used to be done. So the elderly in the past were abused and homeless?

Before SS and Medicare, damn straight they were. SINCE 1965, poverty among the elderly has gone from 60 oer cent to 13 percent, hater dupe. Too bad Reagan never read ''The Good Old Days- They Were TERRIBLE''...The gilded age was a horror for most people. Thank god for progressives...

Yes. And still are, just not as often.
I can tell you about hundred stories that I have seen first hand.
My personal favorite was the time a lady moved in at a facility I worked at with a broken orbital and nose. Her son beat the crap out of her with a phone, and had been beating her for awhile. Thankfully the state stepped in, got her guardian and moved her into a safe clean place.

Frankly, other than proving you hate Democrats I am confused by your post. Please explain this sentence fragment: "so the solution is to take tax payer money that should be going to things like education and maintaining the infrastructure or borrowing money from china to put us further in debt?"
It was a simple statement, it needs explanation? The government was formed for a reason, infrastructure, security, foreign and domestic, etc., not everything else it has expanded into being. And expand it has.
Oh, and if ACA is such a bad thing how do you explain that it was originally proposed by The Heritage Foundation, a right wing think tank. And further, how do you explain that ACA is modeled after the same exact plan as the one put into place in Massachusetts by a republican governor.
Well, Romney may well have lost because of it so I don't see how your point is meaningful. Plus they voted on it. When did we vote on the ACA?
And finally, why has the republican party done everything in their power to destroy rather than improve ACA.
Improve it, how? It's a clusterfuck and Obama keeps moving the goal posts to keep the Democrat hope alive in upcoming elections. How does that not speak to you?
Do you approve of people working their entire life and then developing a serious disease and end up having everything taken away from them? Are you for having millions of people having their lives shortened because they cannot afford regular medical care and are forced to emergency rooms when it is to late to prevent the damage that has been done? ...blah blah blah
Some of the reasons healthcare is expensive is government intervention, litigation and protection thereof and of course technology where life can be extended until you are almost a mummy. I see nothing wrong with the rich paying for whatever they want but a serious problem arrises when people feel that they are entitled to the best care available for a slong as possible. You blaming the Republicans is nothing but stupid partisan nonthought.

Breaking News- When you count ALL taxes and fees, the poorest fifth pay 16 per cent, while everyone else pays 21 per cent.

In the fifties, corporations paid 35 per cent of all taxes- now 10 per cent. Shortsighted Reaganist bs...

No, but Pubs have sure brainwashed you hater dupes. That chart is FEDERAL INCOME TAX ONLY, and payroll taxes are more than that now, let alone state and local taxes and fees, which have increased for thirty years to make up for cuts in federal aid. You're a perfect chump of the greedy idiot GOP. Functional IDIOT. Change the channel.

yep, federal income tax only. but it is still taxes on total income. but the same holds true for state, local taxes and fees. and when you get to sales and usage taxes the number is even sku'd far greater to the tax burden being on the rich. the rich are paying an even far greater percentage than is represented by federal income tax alone. see, another snippet of liberal bullshit nipped in the bud. thanks for bringing it to our attention

Yes...

47 MILLION…the number of Americans for whom Medicare provides comprehensive health care

51 PERCENT…the number of Americans 65 or older who did not have health care before Medicare was passed, while today virtually all elderly Americans have health care thanks to Medicare

30 PERCENT…the number of elderly Americans who lived in poverty before Medicare, a number now reduced to 7.5 PERCENT

72 PERCENT…the number of Americans in a recent poll who said that Medicare is “extremely” or “very” important to their retirement security

Medicare assures health care for seniors who might otherwise find health care inaccessible. It saves our government money. It makes the lives of our seniors better.

Two concepts inspired Medicare. First, seniors require more care than younger Americans. Second, seniors usually live on less income; many survive only on Social Security. This combination renders seniors extremely vulnerable to losing their savings, homes or lives from easily treatable diseases.

And Medicare provides good care. American life expectancy at birth ranks 30th in the world. We remain 30th for the rest of our lives -- until we reach 65. Then, our rank rises until we reach 14th at 80. We can thank the remarkable access to health care provided by Medicare.

Every industrialized nation guarantees health care for seniors. Indeed, we are unhappily distinctive in being the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee care for everyone else, as well. Medicare restores us to a civilized status.

Before Medicare, only 40 percent of nonworking seniors had health insurance, and of those with coverage, private insurance paid for less than 10 percent of their hospital bills. The principle of insuring only the healthy who consume little care and avoiding the sick has always driven our private insurance industry. No insurance company can make money by offering the same comprehensive, affordable coverage to seniors as Medicare, so they don't offer it. Our experience with Medicare Advantage, an effort to privatize parts of Medicare, resulted in our government spending $17 billion more for the same benefits available through Medicare. Our private insurance industry was in no hurry to insure seniors before Medicare started. They are in no hurry now. Medicare revolutionized health care access for seniors.

Why is Medicare expensive? Simply, health care for seniors will always cost more than that of healthier, younger Americans. And costs are rising in every health care system around the world, not just Medicare. The United States is doubly cursed because our costs are rising faster and are already twice as expensive as other countries. Though hard to believe, Medicare is a leader in fighting cost increases. Private insurance industry costs are rising nearly twice as fast as those of Medicare. And when it comes to administrative expenses, private insurance is 10 times higher than Medicare. In fact, if the single payer financing of Medicare were applied to citizens of all ages, we would save $350 billion annually, more than enough to provide comprehensive health care to every American.

Medicare is good for our seniors and good for our country. It provides health care far more affordably and efficiently than our private insurance industry. It saves our country hundreds of billions of dollars in administrative overhead. And if we expand Medicare to cover younger, healthier Americans, we would all get more care at less cost.

You are concerned about people who cannot find jobs seeking government assistance. You think it is WRONG for the government to help individuals. Okay, what do you think about this: Last year Boeing made a profit of $5.9 billion. Not only did they not pay a penny in tax, THEY RECEIVED AN $82 MILLION TAX REFUND! Their federal tax rate was
-1.4%. I make less than $100,000 and paid +15%. You scream about some people receiving pennies and ignore corporate welfare in the billions. Is it possible that maybe they fooled you into looking at a grain of sand so that you would ignore the mountain right next to it?
Boeing Paid No Federal Income Tax Last Year: Analysis

so the solution is to take tax payer money that should be going to things like education and maintaining the infrastructure or borrowing money from china to put us further in debt? yea, we see what your kind of thinking has done for this once great nation. don't go bellyaching to me about evil corporations. they only take advantage of what government gives them. yep, your people loving democrats too. team Obama just singlehandedly gave the healthcare industry to insurance companies and pharmaceuticals. heck they just took the last major cost burden off the shoulders of corporations too and put it squarely on the taxpayer. smooth move

Do you think people should be placed in a position where they have to decide between purchasing food or medicine? Do you approve of insurance companies being able to pick and choose who they insure so that people with pre-existing conditions are left to die without care? Why do you hate your fellow Americans so much that you could care less when they become sick and are tossed into the gutter because they cannot afford healthcare?

first, what was proposed by the heritage foundation was no where close to what obamacare is. 2nd, people are still faced with whether to by food or medicine. if they aren't 100% subsidized on the cost oh the premiums they have more out of pocket than before. obamacare has caused more people to lose their existing plans than it has signed up. and even if subsidized they can't afford the deductibles. oh yea, lets not forget how many of the top healthcare facilities, clinics and hospitals do nit have to take obamacare. looks like the rich and poor are even being segregated further. the rich surely don't want all these poor slumming up their healthcare facilities. so we'll just exempt them from them. won't be seeing any poor with cancer at sloan kettering now will we. the democrats have shoved another one right up the asses of the poor while smiling in their faces

And what would the cost be without government micromanaging the care? More? You don't know much about government if you think so.

I worked in in home care and in memory care. You have no clue.
It's like the right forgets history, and how bad it was for the poor, disabled, And elderly. It's like you guys want to go back to those times. It isn't bad enough now? But don't worry homelessness among the elderly is on the rise. Where are the people taking care of them?

Healthcare fraud is estimated to cost the country $80 billion a year, and it's growing, according to the FBI and Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.

JFK was an empty suit with empty words. God help us if we ever allow a president to appoint his own brother as A.G. to watch his back but that's the way the Kennedys did business. The liberal media knew of John and Bobby's sexual adventures with movie stars and mafia call girls but they decided that Americans didn't need to know about it. The media knew about Jack's congenital bad back and his reliance on pain killers but it wasn't news. They knew about Bobby's strange obsession with the assassination of Castro but it wasn't news. The Bay of Pigs adventure should have had JFK impeached for using the CIA to recruit, train and equip an invasion army but they decided to downplay it. The Russians knew more about JFK's weaknesses than Americans did.

JFK was no empty suit. That would be Reagan. The Bay of Pigs should have been the demise of the CIA, who lied to the President and tried to lure him into starting WWIII.

We now know—from the CIA's internal history of the Bay of Pigs, which was declassified in 2005—that agency officials realized their motley crew of invaders had no chance of victory unless they were reinforced by the U.S. military. But Allen Dulles and Richard Bissell, the top CIA officials, never disclosed this to J.F.K. They clearly thought the young President would cave in the heat of battle, that he would be forced to send in the Marines and Air Force to rescue the beleaguered exiles brigade after it was pinned down on the beaches by Castro's forces. But Kennedy—who was concerned about aggravating the U.S. image in Latin America as a Yanqui bully and also feared a Soviet countermove against West Berlin—had warned agency officials that he would not fully intervene. As the invasion quickly bogged down at the swampy landing site, J.F.K. stunned Dulles and Bissell by standing his ground and refusing to escalate the assault.

Are you THAT naive to believe medical fraud only occurs in government programs? Perhaps the greatest total dollar amount of fraud is committed by the health insurance companies themselves.

LOL. Communism's worst enemy. Of course you hate him.

Red flags should go up anytime someone starts out with the authoritarian phrase "we now know...". Post the relevant portion that bakes up your assertion. Do the documents state that the CIA heads didn't disclose vital information and that they thought Kennedy would cave? Or is that a conclusion based on an opinion backed up with an assertion? Sounds fishy. Kennedy had military experience so I'm skeptical that he was that naive.
