A Tea Party Wants Mandatory Christmas Carols In Public Schools

Merry Hyatt, Tea Party Patriot, Wants Mandatory Christmas Carols In Public Schools

It's called the "Freedom to Present Christmas Music in Public School Classrooms or Assemblies" initiative.

Merry Hyatt, a substitute teacher and member of the Redding Tea Party Patriots, is behind the push. The Record Searchlight reports:

The initiative would require schools to provide children the opportunity to listen to or perform Christmas carols, and would subject the schools to litigation if the rule isn't followed.

Schools currently are allowed to offer Christmas music as long as it is used for academic purposes rather than devotional purposes and isn't used to promote a particular religious belief, according to an analysis by the California Legislative Analyst's Office.

Parents are allowed to have their students opt out of the caroling if they express that desire in advance.

The initiative has the support of the local Tea Party Patriots president.

Isn't the Tea Parties purpose suppose to be limited Government, not having the Government control our lives, etc. Doesn't this go directly against that?

Sounds like to me more people using the whole concept of "tea parties" to further their own agenda. Thoughts?

wow what a deceptive article..most likely written by someone with a love of sodomy and Judy Garland

And yet showing kids 'The Story of Stuff' is not indoctrination? Interesting view of the word 'indoctrination' you have. According to your view, giving children the opportunity to have Christmas songs is indoctrination, and playing the film 'The Story of Stuff' (which hugely inaccurate and promotes a very liberal agenda) as mandatory and part of the curriculum is fine.

You liberals are a odd bunch.

Odd, I do not see where that is in the OP. Oh wait, it's not. All you're doing is once again coming in a thread to troll and go off-topic.

I have not stated my opinion on "The Story of Stuff" so for you to go out and assume I approve/disapprove it is hypocrisy on your part.

You painting all of the Liberals as the same gives me the opportunity I suppose to paint you in the same picture as Pale. Someone who is wishing for a violent revolution against the U.S. Government. Oh wait, you don't? Well hey, aren't all Conservatives the same?

You are so arrogant that the space around my posts in threads that you are apart of is surrounded by your ego.

Everything that you accuse me of, you do yourself - stupid boy.

Looks to me like the thread title and a few posts are not being honest.

It says she wants to give kids a choice, and they can opt out if they like.

Of course the simple minds that don't understand this movement jump to the wrong conclusions.

I don't see how this violates the first amendment at all seeing that it was meant for the creation of a church not the removal of religion of public life.

This is a continued attempt to drive religion out of our lives because we are dealing with communist.

That is exactly right because their religion is the political state and like all religions they can't tolerate another religion in their turf.

The definition of mandatory is providing opportunity?
If you are subject to litigation if you don't provide the opportunity then yes, it is mandatory.

Do you think school children should be given the opportunity to listen to my voodoo songs else the school is subject to litigation?

:cuckoo:

When you scratch the surface of most of these professed anti-government types, you find an anti-YOUR government type underneath, who is more than happy to use government for his own purposes.

Tell the government to keep their hands of my medicare.

wrong....the title says "mandatory christmas carols"....that is a lie...it wants the opportunity....

given that christmas is a national holiday, your point about voodoo songs is irrelevant....we have an entire christmas holiday, a season....yet people can't sing carols about christmas and somehow allowing them the opportunity is making mandatory.....weird

Really?

I seem to recall a SCOTUS ruling where they stated that schools could not interfere with the right of students to express their religious beliefs.

What was that based upon? Oh yeah. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

The school mandating what the students should be doing is an entirely different matter. Which is why students are not required to stand for the pledge.

The students can do whatever they damn well please to express their religious beliefs as long as it's nonviolent. This is a different matter though.

Besides, you forgot to mention that the other parts of the 1st amendment do NOT apply in schools.

that is because the other facets have no bearing on this issue....you're trying to lump all issues into this one and you're wrong to do so....

then again, your thread title is dishonest, so perhaps you have an agenda here and don't want to be honest

I recommend school carol songs such as :
Walking around in womens underwear"
Chimpmunks roasting on an open fire.
Grandma got ran over by a reindeer.

No, you are incorrect. If you have to face litigation for not doing something it is mandatory. We have a national holiday for Christmas...the little devils aren't even in school. This entire thing is an effort by the teapartiers to get the government to push their agenda.

I think people in America are sick and tired of being shoved around by the lunatics on the left. That's what the tea party uprisings are all about. Funny though,, the left barely noticed them at first.. They said maybe a "thousand" showed up in Wash. and barry left town,, "I don't know who these people are." what has changed?

Well if the Congressional Black Caucus can push an agenda then so can the Congressional White Caucus. No problem.. and so can the Tea Party folks..

do you really not understand the difference between mandating an opportunity vs. mandating a required action? they are not mandating that everyone has to sing christmas carols, they are only mandating the opportunity. if no one wants the christmas carols at that school, guess what, no christmas carols....

think about ravi....restaurants are mandated to have handicap access, such as ramps, that doesn't mean they have to force everyone to use the handicap access, only that they have to provide the opportunity of the access, they can provide other means of entrance into their establishment....or do you really believe that means that restaurants have to force everyone to use the handicap access?

Yes...they can. But they cannot make it mandatory that children are exposed in school to religious songs.

Christmas is a winter solistice holiday which has been MOSTLY co-opted byt the Christians.

Santa is Christian? Seems more like a socialist to me.
The Christmas tree is Christian?

I recommend everyone watch "The History of Christmas" on the history channel when the opportunity permits.
