We talked briefly about this in a power generation class I took about a year ago. The problem with windmills is that they don't produce that much energy. If I'm not mistaken wind generators operate at about 3 megawatts while generators running off of fossil fuels get up to about 1500 megawatts so it would take 500 wind generators to do the work of one normal generator. Don't quote me on those numbers. I'll have to some research on that later.
