23-year-old man dies after chugging a bottle of tequila in a friendly bet

When one is dumb, killing yourself accidentally is highly possible.

Key point: what was the brand of booze?

It wasn't Patron, that's for sure. That stuff goes down like water.

All kidding aside, it is indeed a sad story, but I'm pretty sure it was more than just chugging down ONE bottle of tequila, he would have had to have another type of drug or narcotic in his system that didn't interact well with the alcohol.

Actually, a fifth of anything over 90 proof will kill you if you drink it fast enough. All you have to do is get your BAC high enough.

Unless a person has developed a very high tolerance for alcohol, a BAC rating of 0.20% represents very serious intoxication. In general most first-time drinkers are unconscious by about 0.15%. A range of 0.35% to 0.40% usually represents potentially fatal alcohol poisoning.

And, the amount consumed has a direct relationship with your body weight. If you weigh less, it takes less alcohol to get your bac in high numbers.

Not only that, your BAC can continue to go up even when you are passed out, because the body will continue to try to metabolize the alcohol, even when you are passed out.

Alcohol poisoning occurs when there is so much alcohol in the bloodstream that areas of the brain controlling basic life-support functions—such as breathing, heart rate, and temperature control—begin to shut down. Symptoms of alcohol poisoning include confusion; difficulty remaining conscious; vomiting; seizures; trouble with breathing; slow heart rate; clammy skin; dulled responses, such as no gag reflex (which prevents choking); and extremely low body temperature.

BAC can continue to rise even when a person is unconscious. Alcohol in the stomach and intestine continues to enter the bloodstream and circulate throughout the body.
