2020 election prospects

12 months from the election and what are the options for the GOP ?

Will they stick with Trump ?

Do they have time to get behind an alternative ?

What price their credibility if they continue to back Donny ?

I know the cultists on here dont have a problem with anything he does but surely educated Americans realise that something is rotten and will vote accordingly ?

In the UK a delegation of Grandees would meet with the problem and tell them that the game was over. Is that likely,or possible, in the US ?

Of course they will. He is the incumbent President. Even if he is far from their ideal candidate, I doubt Warren and Biden come any closer to checking their boxes than Trump does. Besides, Trump's populism can land on a lot of people's soft spots is some very meaningful ways for them even if they otherwise detest him.
It's looking more and more like the Dems will be running a pretty hardcore lefty, and that just solidifies Trump's position with the GOP -- as if that were even needed.

The ideological chasm of this election will be a few zillion miles wide.
.
Indeed. From one perspective it's the Democrats vs the Nazis and from the other it's the Repubs vs the socialists. In fact, our elections will likely be framed as such for some time. Grab your popcorn and beer … the show has already begun.
The nihilist in me is enjoying the circus, I have to admit.

The rest of me, not so much.

The GOP is Trump's party. He is King of the Talk Radio Nutters. Anyone who bucks him is labeled a commie and banished.

The Democrats have completely lost their shit and are trying to out-promise, out-spend, out-Identity Politics and out-PC each other.

What a horrible, horrible choice we face in 2020.
.

Again, I listen to CSpan and POTUS and have yet to hear them go on about how you are a commie!

Anyhoo, you are correct except Pence will be the Republican choice in 2020...

Trump being impeached by the House and Convicted and Removed by the Senate which would make Pence President.

Will he have a primary challenger?

Maybe, only if he pardons Trump...

Yes, circus. One big, ongoing, embarrassing circus. Daily.

He will never be removed, he has a 95% approval rating by Republican voters.

What exactly has Trump done to harm or make things worse for hard working Americans?
He exploded the deficit, adding to what hard working Americans, their children and their progeny will owe in the future.

His trade war has thrown us into a manufacturing recession.

He has failed to produce even half of the ongoing GDP he promised.

He has failed to produce the health care plan that HE PROMISED would "take care of everybody" and that "we'd all love".

He has contributed to the toxicity in DC with his childish personal insults and name-calling, making it even less likely that initiatives that would help hard-working Americans directly or indirectly will come to fruition.

I know. Fake news. None of those are good examples. I know the game with nutters.
.
/—-/ Still waiting for the democRATs balanced budget so Trump can sign it. Any day now, any day...
His economy. His promises.

You nutters sure love to take credit for anything good and lay blame for anything bad.

Do you all get trained at the same place?

You’re actually attacking this economy? You’re dumber than a brick.
I'm not attacking the economy. But since this is my profession, and since I don't get my data and opinions from talk radio, I know what's actually happening.

Therefore, your opinion of it, or me, is of zero interest to me.
.
W-man is well-informed and usually a spot-on and rational conservative guy but I read your posts in this as simply a litany of what you consider to be Trump's failures thus far … not attacking this economy. Fortunately we are thriving & prospering - you choose to read the data differently - and Trump has stuck to his promise to end our role of policemen to the whole world.

Our economic successes & failures belong to no one man but are rather ours.

Yeah … despite what some have said, we did build this.

One need not have a drop of nihilist in 'em to enjoy the shit-show. Life has more than enough drudgery for most and our politics should not add to it.

You made a valid point earlier … rather than take advantage of Trump's vulnerabilities - everyone has some - the Dems are doing all they can to insure his reelection. It seems they finally found their purpose in life. Good for them.

Trump will be the nominee and could win again as the Democrats try to out leftard each other.

Trump has cut down that list of Never-Trumpers substantially. They see the coalition Trump has built. Instead of losing like McCain and Romney, Trump won a decisive EC victory. 2020 will be even more decisive than 2016 because we all see the "promises kept".
The MSM and progressive Left can whine and moan, but they have no candidate and no policies that most voters will support.

Again, Cruz, Graham, Rubio, Collins, Romney, and McConnell know that if they vote against Trump the 95% of the GOP that approve of Trump will kick them to the curb in their next primary. Its that simple. Support Trump or find another job.

The "alternatives" are a stone drunkard (Weld), a washed-up governor who bizarrely claimed to be hiking solo when he was playing footsie with his Argentine GF (Sanford), and a former congressman who a lot of people think was once a band member of the Eagles (Walsh).

The good news is that none of them really have any credibility to lose.

Yeah, here is the thing the same GOP that support Trump once supported the Iraq Invasion that Trump was against...

So, ya know you guys are easily manipulated as can be...

Let Rush turn against Trump and Hannity and Levin follow afterwards and all of you in that 95% will say " Trump who? "...

Also let remember you need to focus on the Swing voter and not just the GOP base.

Yes, it is wonderful to have your base cemented but without the swing voter you lose, well like the Democrats did in 2016 in key States like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin...

So let me be clear those like Romeny are focusing on polls and how independents are swaying and not the base...

We disagree there. I know what the Right is fed by talk radio, since I listen fairly regularly. In the many conversations I've had with Trumpsters, one thing I'm absolutely sure about is that have been badly mal-informed not only about the present economy, but the Meltdown and other important financial topics as well.

It's like dealing with a left winger who denies the existence of PC and Identity Politics, or who thinks that employers and profit are evil and must be punished. They're so encased in their informational/ideological vacuum that trying to break into it is an abject waste of time.

I still support the removal of Saddam and his crazy sons. Trump has his view.
We're not "manipulated", as Obama said, we "cling" to our beliefs, they do not change.
Rush and Hannity are truth tellers, compared to the "fake news" outlets.
We're not lemmings like you leftists....who keep following AOC and the squad.
The "swing voters" know prosperity when they see it, not just swing voters, but union folks who want good jobs here in the US.
They also know that the democrat's policies are crazy.
I'm very comfortable that Trump will win in 2020, impeached or not. Voters see how the MSM has been 95% negative on Trump from day one. Voters also see Trump's many accomplishments. The one word that describes Trump is "populist". That includes swing voters, just look at 2016, and Trump is gaining voters, not losing voters.

Nah … the NeverTrumpers are still there and still seething but Trump has held serve with his 2016 supporters and even added to them. When the dust settles the Democrat Socialist Party and its chosen one will have to explain their platform - open borders, gun-confiscation, abortion, socialism, and impeachment-in-lieu-of-election-victories - or try to disavow it.

Exactly right!
