So...the majority if gun crime in the United States is caused by career criminals who mainly shoot each other......and this is a case of that....

They are 17....and could not legally own the guns they had when they shot each other....they could not pass a background check......and yet, they had illegal guns.....while law abiding citizens have to wait, undergo background checks, and now, law abiding 18 year olds will no longer be able to buy rifles or shotguns......even though they can go over seas and kill for their country..

Chesterfield teens who shot each other in deadly exchange illegally acquired their guns on the black market

Tomarr Brash and Chase Harris, both 17, sat nearly shoulder-to-shoulder in a Nissan Altima when their negotiated marijuana deal took a sudden, deadly turn. Harris pulled a gun, demanded the drugs and the cash and opened fire. Out of self-preservation, Brash did the same, he said.

Too young to buy or possess handguns, both teens had acquired their weapons illegally from black market sources, police would later determine.

Their street purchases underscore the findings of academic studies that show that the overwhelming majority of gun crimes aren’t committed by lawful gun owners, and that perpetrators rarely acquire guns from a supplier that requires them to pass a mandatory background check.

Nearly 1 in 3 offenders who used a gun in a crime for which they later would be incarcerated acquired the weapon from a drug dealer or other black market source, according to a 2012 study that analyzed data from a government survey of state and federal prison inmates.

During the course of the Chesterfield County shooting investigation, detectives learned that just one day before the deadly encounter, Harris bought an antique .32-caliber Harrington & Richardson five-shot hammerless revolver — manufactured 80 to 90 years ago — from a 20-year-old acquaintance for $100.

And the illegal gun seller?

The young man who sold Harris the revolver will not be prosecuted for the illegal gun sale because he cooperated with police in their investigation of the May 5, 2016, double shooting in the parking lot of the Mallard Cove Apartments. Authorities said he was needed as a potential witness against Brash, who was charged with second-degree murder in Harris’ death.

To a large degree, the Chesterfield case illustrates what researchers at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health found in a study of crime guns released in July 2016: An overwhelming majority of gun crimes in Pittsburgh in 2008 weren’t committed by lawful gun owners.

In a partnership with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, a university research team led by epidemiologist Anthony Fabio traced the origins of 762 firearms recovered by officers, and found that nearly 80 percent of the perpetrators associated with those weapons were not the lawful owners.

This can't be true. We know it can't be because only NRA member shoot people n stuff, and everybody else jumps up and complies with all laws if Democrats ask them to.

There is no way to illegally purchase a gun. It is only illegal for you to be in possession of one if you are prohibited from having one. Or it is illegal to sell one knowing it is stolen.
