11 Year Old Hacks Simulated Florida Voting System

At a hacker's conference, there was a contest for kids 6-17 year old to see who could hack into a simulated voting system used in Florida and other states. With no infrastructure as a Russian hacker would, a 11 year old took 10 minutes to hack into the system and changed simulated voting results. It does seem that we need to take this extremely seriously. This should be a top priority in this country.

Mark Earley, the elections supervisor in Leon County who is a cybersecurity liaison between state and local officials, questioned how outsiders could obtain the security protocols used by Florida if they weren't already behind the system's firewalls. He said that all this "hacking noise" and "misinformation plays into the hands of the folks who are trying to undermine democracy."

The kid hacked a website, not the actual vote totals. Yes, it could lead to voter suppression, but actual vote totals weren’t changed.
