1974....And they opened up a couple vaults.

Ever heard of banks rushing kegs of nails with layers of $20 gold coins on the top from branch to branch, when the auditors came calling?

ORLY?...Where does gubmint get the loot to go $30+ trillion in debt?

And don't insult my intelligence saying that the Fed hasn't been monetizing this shit.

ORLY?...Where does gubmint get the loot to go $30+ trillion in debt?

They hold an auction to sell Treasury Securities.
Usually at least several times a week.

Here were some recent T-Bill ones.

You can get in on the action from home.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I've heard about those...Word is that the ones with maturities longer than a few years out aren't moving so hot....Which also speaks nothing as to who is buying them.

"Gubmint securities" are the "collateral" given the Fed, so that they can print up the loot, which they spend irresponsibly because all they need to do is print up more "securities" to get more loot...It's the financial self-licking ice cream cone.

At no point is there a "there" there.
It's the borrowing that's the problem. How does more debt help the economy? Both my kids were a bit stressed financially last year so I gave them each $5000. I don't think it would have helped them much if I had loaned them the money.
