The election is close (up for grabs) and that means that Trump could win. Zelenski knows that Kamala will follow in the same steps as Biden, meaning that Zelenski has no reason to talk to Harris right now. Nonetheless, if Trump wins, Zelenski is not likely to get the same support from Trump, so Zelenski needs to talk to Trump to see is he can get him to commit to him continuing to help Ukraine.
