Lots of censorship-free sites out there...

Check them out...

Youtube isn't going to stop being top dog any time soon, and when they do start to fall from grace Google will just buy their competitor.
Regardless, do you want to support a platform that is anti-free speech?

I do not.
Missourian; Google is only anti free speech if the speech is anti statist left &/or pro constitutional individual Liberty(right).

I kept eating at Chick-fil-A even though I support gay marriage. I'm not really the kind of person that boycotts brands that I enjoy over politics.

As it should be – if you don’t like a given hosting site, go somewhere else.

Don’t whine and lie about ‘censorship’ or free speech being ‘violated’ or call for ‘government regulation’ or other such idiocy.

And needless to say, YouTube will be just fine.

This is both ignorant and wrong.

The doctrine of free speech concerns solely the relationship between government and those governed; not between or among private persons or private entities – such as online hosting sites.

Consequently, neither YouTube nor any other private hosting site can ‘violate’ free speech.

I'm not so sure about that...a lot of left leaning content is also being purged. Not as heavily...but steadily.

I believe what Google is is pro-establishment...i.e. pro controlling the message.

What Google and YouTube oppose is independent news and commentary.

Without gatekeepers controlling the narrative...you get free thinking people questioning the official message.

Can't have that.

They can legally censor people though. Social media platforms are huge and play a pivotal role in politics these days. If perspectives are being censored I can understand why those affected would be outraged about it. Legality and morality do not always go hand in hand.

The same principal applies.

If free speech isn't worth fighting for...why shouldn't the government be entitled to infringe upon it?

Isn't the principle the same whether it is an all powerful government or an all powerful corporation?

We gave these platforms immunity based on the principle that they were creatinga public forum for everyone...not only for those espousing ideas the owners agree with.

If they want to pick and choose...I'm fine with that. But then they relinquish their immunity.

That's fair, right?

Dave Cullen's posts are usually such a collection of angry misogyny, we are better off without them.

Seems righties don’t like free market economics. People don’t want hate speech, porn, etc on YouTube. There are places for it and you are FREE to peddle it there. You are not free to shove that crap in peoples faces.

I really like YouTube...but I hate censorship more than I enjoy watching YouTube videos.

Hopefully an alternative will grow out of this and YouTube will forfeit their monopoly over this policy. And Twitter too.

In my opinion, that will be the best outcome for everyone...right and left.

I think the problem might be impossible because militant woke young people dominate social media. The brands will always cater to the kinds of people that dominate their platforms. The same thing would happen to whoever replaced YouTube and Twitter.

As private entities, web hosting sites such as YouTube are at liberty to edit their content as they see fit, where such editing in no manner ‘violates’ the doctrine of free speech.

It’s therefore perfectly appropriate and warranted for YouTube to edit its content to exclude rightwing dishonesty and lies – fake news, baseless conspiracy theories, and content advocating for racism, bigotry, and hate.

In fact, conservatives have more than ample opportunities to propagate their lies, misinformation, fear, ignorance, and hate as the internet is indeed infinite and more than capable of accommodating that rightwing fear, ignorance, and hate.
