You don't want to ban cars.
Everyday 32 people are killed by a drunk driver that's more than someone killed with an assault weapon. You want to blame the driver but not the car. Where as you want to blame the gun but not the shooter.

Old story.

Bartenders are liable. Next it's gun manufacturers. Remington comes to mind.

So, if the weapon one uses to attack a fortified position is called an assault weapon then what does one call the same weapon when using it to defend one's defiladed position? A defense weapon? Political correctness strikes again.

I can imagine this is true for someone who rarely leaves their safe space other than to take a booster.
Please define military style weapons because that's a huge class of arms.
They use rifles, shotguns, sidearms, knives, hatchets, machetes, swords, axes, spears, bows & arrows, fire, etc...

It would make more sense to hold a gun dealer liable, before a gun manufacturer. A gun shop should be able to have the discretion to not sell to someone if they have a feeling they are not right.

A gun manufacturer has the responsibility of making a product that does what its mechanically supposed to do. If it blows up in your face and takes your hand off, then yes... by all means sue Remington.
