You Tube killing itself with ad's

YouTube has been aggressively going after that recently, in fact, many legitimate channels have been caught in the net, creators saying they were demonetized because YT thought they were AI.

I pay the monthly fee, something like $13 a month, everything ad free, easy to FF thru the paid promotions included in some videos. I also like YT music, volume is enhanced over regular YT music videos.

This is actually a time appropriate thread for me. We have Premium Family Plan, which has been great, but our son is moving out and YT has been cracking down (as other streaming services have) with location sharing. Services like YT, Netflix, etc. are cracking down on "family plans" where members of the plan are not geolocated to the same address.

Our annual family plan subscription expires this month. So we're thinking of letting that expire and then going with either an individual Premium Plan or an individual Premium Lite Plan. (Link below)

As far as I can tell, with recent updates to Premium Lite it's ALMOST the same as Premium with the following:
  • You can download videos** included
  • Background play** included
  • Pre-roll, Post-roll and inserted ads by YT removed**
  • Ads from the content creator that they have inserted are still present in Premium and Premium Lite, in Premium you can jump ahead with a click, this may not be the same in Premium Lite**. I don't have Lite yet so can't verify.
  • ** The biggest difference between regular and lite that I can see is the inclusion of Youtube Music. Premium eliminates ads on videos where premium music is included. So while Lite eliminates ads for most content, it does not eliminate ads for music content (this can be dedicated music videos or creator videos where muisc is playing consistently in the background.
Not being a big YT music person, the limitation on music isn't a big deal for me, there are other sources. So Lite might be the more budget friendly opion.

Video below compares the two options. But note YT Lite is $9 per month and by month is the only option. There is no discount for annual subscription, but it doesn't lock you in either.

I have an ad blocker and watch YouTube thru a different program that doesn't allow their ads.....but YouTube has worked around those by thinking I'm a bot and insisting I watch on YouTube directly. Even if you skip the ads, you still have to get thru 5 or 10 seconds of them before skipping. It's frustrating to say the least

I tried an ad-killer program, but it blocked me from a lot of sites.
Hmmm.

I haven't had that problem.

Then again, I don't use a lot of sites.

You should be able to "white list" on your ad killer, any site you need to get on, so it doesn't cut off access.
