Trump sure likes levying higher prices on consumers by threatening and placing tariffs on imports to the US.

By the time he's done only the rich won't care.

"Colombia has stopped millions of migrants from coming to the US. Trump’s strategy of antagonizing our allies is not smart policy—it just endangers decades of partnership with Colombia," Gallego added. "We can’t act like this is some sort of 3D chess. This could’ve been handled with a simple phone call."

They would still be on the phone. I would say it was the MOST EFFECTIVE way of dealing with a belligerent leader who is trying to get rid of his own undesirables.

You don't understand tariffs as a tool of leverage.

And since the tariffs only lasted an hour before Colombia caved, nobody feels anything, except Colombia.

Let's put it this way: The 25% (the initial amount of tariff Trump imposed) of business we do with them is by sheer volume greater than the 25% of business they do with us. If they get into a reciprocal trade war with us, they will eventually commit economic suicide while our economy survives, unscathed. It's an effective strategy that the former Soviet Union found out the hard way.

His tariff threat worked. The Columbian president announced 20 minutes later that he would accept deportation flights and also now offer his own presidential plane to facilitate the flights. Trump was right and his tariff threat worked flawlessly. :dunno:

Lol 20 minutes.

Stop it! Stop it! HE'S ALREADY DEAD!

When prices elevate you will declare Trump as brilliant, or just act stupid as usual.
Don't buy those goods. That is the point, moron. When another country actively works against our better interests, it is incumbent on the US to hit them where it hurts. Trump's actions today have proven to be effective. If Colombia wants to take it further, I am sure their pain will be greater than ours.

I know. I can read. I'm very much aware.

Are you ready to pay more for goods?

The US doesn't need"millions of Columbian"migrants "

What a stupid thread
I imagine any increase of stuff coming from Columbia--I wonder if they'll tax the cocaine :) --will be more than offset by us not having to spend the estimated $68,000 it costs us in goods and services for each of most of the estimated 190,000 migrant Columbians that are here.

And that doesn't include the cost in blood and treasure via their criminal element that are here. The criminal element they don't want to allow to come back.

You understand

Yes.

We should have cut off China LONG ago. Once we get chip manufacturing up and running, we wont need China anymore. It will hurt, but its worth it in the long run.

I guess you can always pay more for Vietnamese coffee. They grow 50% of the world supply.
