Asian Imports Into US Collapse Amid Trump Tariff Wars

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. OP the sky high tariffs on U.S. goods by all these other countries? Crickets? Yeah that's what we thought.

"As history has painfully taught, once protectionist wars begin, the likely result is a deadly and will-nigh unstoppable downward spiral by the entire world economy." - Peter Navarro, The Policy Game: How Special Interests and Idealogues are Stealing America, 1984.

Peter Navarro is the senior counselor for trade and manufacturing to Donald Trump, and he is the only one pushing Trump into this tariff war. He is also the one who pushed Trump into his failed tariff war during his first administration.

Navarro has come a long way since 1984 when he knew the damaging and idiotic effects of a protectionist war.

So here's the thing. China is cutting way back on its exports to the US.

Way back.

Asian imports to the U.S. have fallen dramatically as businesses respond to the high tariffs placed on goods from China.

According to a recent report from the maritime research platform Sea-Intelligence, the number of "blank sailings"—scheduled voyages canceled by the carrier—from Asia to the U.S. have risen as a result of President Donald Trump's tariff announcements.

For the period covering April 14 to May 11, the firm found that the number of blank sailings on the transpacific route had risen from the equivalent of about 60,000 containers in late March to 250,000 the week following Trump's "Liberation Day" tariff announcements. In the second week of April, the figure had increased to 367,800.

Remember the supply chain problems of 2021 and the resulting inflation?

Yeah.

We get certain food items from China. Apple juice, garlic, seafood, fruits and vegetables, vitamins, snacks, processed sugar and confections, spices, tea, etc.

Expect empty shelves or higher prices for these items in the near future.

I mentioned in another topic last week the Harmonized Tariff Schedule for the United States is more than 4400 pages. Multiply that times the number of countries Trump claims to be in negotiations with, and you can see how it's all bullshit.

Tariff negotiations take YEARS. For the USMCA between the US, Canada, and Mexico alone, it took Trump's first administration almost three years.

So when Trump claims victory after 90 days, you can be absolutely sure he's full of shit.

That’s sort of the point…

Maybe you haven't heard yet, but China now wants to negotiate tariffs, and even dropped tariffs on US goods as a sign of good faith. That is a positive outcome.

Asians can fix it by lowering or eliminating tariffs on U.S. goods. Uncle Sam will no longer be a patsy for international scams, USA USA USA

Whoopsie. A swing and a miss.

Thing is, Americans love borrowing and spending money. If there's little to buy from China be assured that we will buy something else from somewhere else.

I use a tree fer a back scratcher.

You can tell if a product came from China by its bar code.

If the first three digits are between 690 and 695, it comes from China.
…or just look at the Made In China tag.

US military equipment does contain parts manufactured in China, despite efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese supply chains. This includes components for critical systems like AI in surveillance aircraft, submarine imaging, and combat vehicles. The presence of counterfeit Chinese parts has also been a significant concern.

You aren't the first dolt to try to compare a year ago to the present rather than since Trump started his idiotic tariff war.

As I keep saying, Trump was elected on third base and you tards think he hit a triple.

Now he's running back toward second.
Ok. Let’s start from the day he started this war, Liberation Day April 2, 2025.

DOW: 41,736
