Yelp- Just Call a Business Racist and We’ll Tag Them for Everyone to See

I guess that a business can protect itself (to some extent) only by following certain policies:

1. Its employees should always smile broadly at certain customers.

2. Its employees should always give priority to serving certain customers.

3. Its employees should profusely apologize if certain customers complain about something.

4. Its employees should say, "No problem, sir/ma'am. Please come again real soon" if the customer refuses to pay.

5. There must be a big banner in front of the restaurant with the three letters of the English alphabet that have been painted in front of Trump Tower in New York City.

6. The business must make regular "donations" to community groups.

Plus it is one thing for yelp to allow posts claiming racism, but now they are creating a CATAGORY to label a place as racist. That makes them responsible as they provide the label.

Okay, obviously, your reading comprehension is poor.

The "Racist" label is not applied because someone left a bad review. The racist label would be applied if the company in question found itself in the news.

This isn't even a "new" policy. In the past, when a company found itself presented in the press in a negative manner, Yelp would put a lockdown on the account to keep non-customers from leaving bad reviews.

This was the case when the owner of a heating and cooling company was caught on a viral video ranting at a black person. (With his company truck in the background for all to see.)

It was also the case when that Dentist from MN shot the supposedly famous lion in Zimbabwe.

Companies would get "Yelp-bombed" by people who didn't use their services or live in their cities.

Yelp is just clarifying when they will lock down comments on a company and why.

Except that they will ONLY apply the label if the business is in the news. They also will take the additional step of limiting who can post on a business.

This is kind of like when the Kleins were nationally outed at Homophobes. People got on Sweet Cakes Yelp Page and swamped it with negative reviews.

Yelp actually did purge hundreds of reviews from people who never bought a cake there, who were weighing in. Same with Memories Pizza or Masterpiece Cake shop.

Yelp could actually bother to confirm reviews. When a company in Washington gets in the news and gets a bunch of negative reviews from Florida, then yeah, someone should call BS on it.

I'm not a fan of Yelp... but they are actually getting a bad rap for this one.
