There is a shortage of truck driver in the US
Trump went overboard with his order. I would like to see the statistics that back it up. How many people from India are actually involbed in Truck driving accidents .
To punish people from India for what the driver did is wrong.

To suppress wages. It is insane. And not only does this suppress wages, it drives housing costs higher.

/——/ My friend worked as a rep for a trucking company in Florida. They paid well and a commission on used oil they picked up. Impossible to hire locals. They either refused to take or failed the drug test. They resorted to immigrants who passed the EPA and drug tests.

Because the number of people in the US who aspire to be truck drivers is low. Also just because they are from America does not guarentee that there will be no trucking accidents.
How many people on the board want to be a truck driver ?

Here is the problem. The FED sets the standard for what must know and do to get CDL. But it is up to each state to enforce those policies.
One requirement isles, you have to be able to speak passable English, be able to read road signs, converse with the public and respond to official queries. You also have to citizenship or lawful permanent residency.
This man could not speak English very well and was an illegal. CA gave him the CDL. This falls on CA.
