According to Bob McGinn of Go Long, Young scored a 98 percent on the S2 Cognition test, while Ohio State's C.J. Stroud scored 18 percent. For teams that place a lot of value on test scores, that's a win for Young and a potential problem for Stroud.

It shows up in decisions made on the field...

People don't understand that sports success usually requires at least some level of intelligence.
For an NFL QB, intelligence is more important than just about everything else.
It does no good to have a rocket arm if you always throw it to the wrong team or constantly miss the target.
Even hitting a receiver with a throw involves very rapid calculations of speed, distance & angles.
I'll take a QB with avg arm strength & high intelligence over an idiot with a turbo arm any day.

Any QB who tries to calculate speed, distance and angles will get sacked.

Where a QB needs intelligence is in reading and reacting to complex defenses that are constantly changing
It's more than that.

Ohio State also had Terrelle Pryor as a QB and he was dumb as a rock as well. It was so bad announcers would make fun of him because he could not complete a sentence. He would talk in fragmented sentences, much like you see Senator Fetterman doing today. Then, being the leader of the team, he got involved in a tattoo scandal that cost the coach of the team his job, and suspended players and records to boot, all because he was an idiot. The only reason he was the QB was because he was such a gifted athlete.

Without a doubt, the most important attribute for a QB is their intelligence, both in relation to performance on the field and off. Arguably, the performance off the field is more important for a myriad of reasons.

In the NFL, he tanked quickly, which was predictable.

It is a "quick thinking" issue.

Dan Marino was/is really dumb, but was a great QB because in a fraction of a second, his great eyesight processed a decision in his brain to throw THERE...

In general, intelligence and quick thinking correlate, but not always.

CJ Stroud has problems with decisions. Bryce Young doesn't have nearly as big a problem there... ie it is not a problem.

The Gators QB likely is that way...

You forgot to mention the Jews
They are very smart you know

Levis???

Gronk???

Many Jews are smart, but not all...

May Jewish football players are/were extremely DUMB...

It's not an intelligence issue. It's something you can either do or you cant do. It's like reading a fly ball off the bat. Some people have an innate ability to do it. Others do not. It's not something you can teach or really even practice. If you can do it you can get better at it but if you cant there's really no amount of practicing it that will make you able to do it.

RW is correct a QB's intelligence comes in, in breaking down defenses, calling out blocking coverages, audibling, etc. If you have a QB who understands the offense like the O Coordinator (P Manning, P Mahomes etc) it's a tremendous asset. But no QB is doing the complex math in their head to determine angle, trajectory and velocity on a thrown ball to hit a receiver. At least no consciously.

To me, if you are being considered for the top pick in the draft, scouts go over every snap of the ball in your career.
They will look at what the defense was doing, how you reacted, are you easily confused, can you confuse defenses.

That is Football intelligence. I dont know if a Wonderlick Test can measure that.

Wrong. It is an instantaneous calculation that becomes similar to an instinctual reaction for the best ones.

Try hitting a receiver sprinting down the seam with a safety over the top & a LBer dropping underneath without thinking/calculating the angles/speed/wind/lineman position.
Or hitting a quick slant with a DE dropping into the zone & a nickleback in tight man coverage.
Or an out pattern with a cornerback undercutting the route & the receiver approaching the sideline.

I played/taught QBs for decades so I'll just go with the correct answer but you do you.

Go ahead & give it a fake news tag but that doesn't make it false

Agreed. It's no different than anything else. Neil Degrasse Tyson is a brilliant physicist. His brain just works in ways that most people's dont. He might be complete shit at breaking down a defense or engineering. Doesn't mean he's not wildly more intelligent then 99% of everyone else on the planet.

There are kids in MS and HS who do it. They have no concept of the math or even the parts of the math you need to calculate that equation. They can just do it. It's not a matter of "intelligence" it's just an innate ability.

You're saying what he's saying dummy. I think you got sacked 1 too many times trying to calculate the trajectory, angle and velosity needed on a football to hit a receiver.

I dont believe for one second you were teaching QB's to do complex math equations in their heads in order to accurately pass the football to their WR's.

Neil Degrasse Tyson can’t throw the deep ball

It is like hitting a 100 mph Fastball.
You can’t calculate the speed, rotation or trajectory
You just react

Not if he believes Co2 is causing Earth to warm he isn't....
Co2 100% causes some level of warming. To what degree and how much of that is caused by human activity is at question. Whether the gases that make up the atmosphere cause the climate to change one way or the other really isn't debatable. It isn't the only factor it but they most certainly play a role. Since we are changing that make-up, we are thus also playing a role.

But that's not the point. Even if NDT is completely wrong on his take regarding ACC, it doesnt change the fact that he's more intelligent than 99% of the humans on the planet. To include you.
