For 30+ years the right has been telling us that Carter was a ***** who did nothing to keep us safe.
They would often contrast him with Reagan, who, they claimed, was tough on Iran and terrorism.
But here's the fucked up thing.
Reagan got caught selling weapons to Iran behind the backs of congress and the American people. Reagan increased funding to the radical Saudi Royals, and he weaponized/funded the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. He also supported a young Hussein (because the U.S. lost a key regional ally (The Shaw) in neighboring Iran).
Point is: once you look at the historical record, you realize that Carter was much tougher on terrorism than Reagan,
The Left knew this all along, but the Right lives in a bubble where the intertwined histories of Reagan and Carter are mythologized to make Reagan look much tougher than he actually was (especially when it came to terrorists, who Reagan made stronger).
It's about time that the Right acknowledges that Carter was much tougher on Iran than he was ever given credit for.
