Would society be a better place if people were inspired by astronauts again instead of reality show stars and professional athletes?

The TV show producers seem to want to revive interest in space and astronauts. We got a flood of astronaut themed stuff on TV last year.

Would society be a better place if astronauts became cool again and inspired more people to become interested in science and engineering?

Anti intellectualism is holding society back. We see it everywhere. In the inner city. In rural America. In the suburbs. In the liberals. In the conservatives.

Probably not. Most of all the astronauts during the 50's and 60's served in the military, usually as pilots. The race to space back then was fueled by fear, and the need to maintain superiroty over Russia and China. Today's astronauts are usually not chosen because they performed military service, but based on feel-good "woke" qualifications, such as race, gender, ethnic origin, etc.

I think todays folks are so shallow, that unfortunately they would only look up to heroes if we had a WWIII.
