But that's the point, they weren't "republican" issues until special interests muscled their way to dominance.
Republicans used to be on the side of working folks, not helping big corporations bust unions.
Republcans used to understand, yeah, you need some common sense restrictions on guns, and the 2nd Amendment used to be about Militias, not gun ownership.
And of course, a lot of the bullshit issues they used to distract people into voting against their own economic interests, which I fell for way too often. I used to actually care about abortion, until I realized it was a ******* scam. They don't want to ban abortion any more than NOW does.
Ever notice that the rich got Free Trade, Tax Cuts, Deregulation and all the goodies they wanted, but Gay Marriage is now legal in 10 states, Abortion is legal everywhere, and your kid is still not allowed to pray in school and is being taught he evolved from a Monkey?
I have...
Horse shit you didn't wake up one day and be against the very core of the Republican party. You have always been a liberal.
No, it wasn't a one day thing... It was a progressive change, that probably began the day six years my boss screwed me over and announced it was perfectly okay he was doing this despite the fact I had been with the company for years because, "Hey, this isn't a union shop where someone might question my brilliant decisions."
(This guy's brilliant decisions ended up taking the company from 70 employees down to 25, with a half-empty warehouse before he jumped to a vendor that I had recruited.)
It was at that point I started asking questions... and didn't like the answers I got.
Still voted for McCain in 2008, because he was a decent guy with a good deal of expereince compared to Obama who had none.
I did have hopes last year the GOP might get it. They had a few guys who kind of understood this recession is bad because it's hurting working folks- Santorum, Gingrich and Perry all seemed to get this. But instead, they forced the Mormon down everyone's throats, and wondered why he lost.
Now, incidently, a lot of these questions, I kind of don't care that much about. Abortion doesn't mean that much to me as it used to. But the dumb shitkickers who keep voting Republican because they just hate abortion and they have links to pictures of aborted fetuses that even the USMB moderators won't let them post, are really part of the problem.
Abortion will never be illegal. Even if it were, women would still get them. If these anti-abortion types wanted to reduce abortions, the answer would not be to ban it, but to give women alternatives to it. WHich is why Socialist France has half the abortions we do per Capita, while the very Catholic Philippines have more abortions per capita than we do, even though abortion is illegal there.
