The 2013 Winter Solstice officially begins tomorrow at 12:11 p.m. Eastern time:

he Winter Solstice begins Dec. 21, 2013, at 5:11 Coordinated Universal Time or 12:11 p.m. Eastern time. On that day, the United States will receive nine hours and 32 minutes of daylight.

After tomorrow, the days will be a little longer each day. Some say they can tell it by mid January, but I, myself, cannot really tell until closer to February.
