Not entirely true, Hamas and other organisations, and I'm no expert on the middle east, execute attacks into Israel every few months including sending over rockets and killing Israelis.
Do you know how many people have been killed by those rockets? 28. Total. From 2001 - 2014, only 28 people have been killed. Most of the rockets are intercepted by Iron Dome or fall harmlessly in the desert.
As far as attacking every few months, Israel has conducted 696 attacks on Gaza and the West Bank since the ceasefire went into effect last summer. Only 29 of those, were in response to rocket fire.
The Israeli response is way over the top and really just sets up the scenario for it to happen all over again. Israel uses a sledgehammer to swat a fly in essence and I think the Palestinians, especially children there, suffer immeasurably and shouldn't.
I agree.
But the conflict is real, both sides kill each other. It is a conflict.
But it's not
"tit for tat". Saying its a "conflict" infers some sort of equality between the two sides fighting and that couldn't be farther from the truth. On the one side, you have the most militarized country on the planet with nuclear weapons, on the other, you have an entire population of people not even allowed to have weapons to defend themselves.
This "conflict", is more like shooting fish in a barrel.
As I said, Palestine should be created as a nation there and recognized by the UN. Then Israel will be accountable for over reaction, the arguments against Israel even existing will then start to die down, the Palestinians will be able to start moving forward and creating a society and economy which will elevate them to personhood.
Nothing will happen until Israel ends the occupation. That is the first thing that must happen. The occupation has to end. It is the cause of all the violence.
All the other arguments are just background noise, until the Palestinians have their own country this conflict with all of its ugly back and forth slaughter will continue.
There is no "back and forth slaughter".
There is a slaughter on one side and an occupied population trying to free itself from tyranny and the daily hell of living under martial law for the last 50 years, on the other.
