Lefty proclaims himself to be the champion of the working class man. But it seems his championship only extends to those things which directly benefit him politically.

Tariffs are really a statement between two economies comparing the condition of the working class in those respective countries.

Most people don't realize that importing cheap Chinese goods comes along with the added poison of importing Chinese poverty also.

To avoid that effect a tariff helps to balance out that disparities between the two working groups but the pressure to buy cheaply is great especially for low income.

Quietly nodding to the purchase of cheap goods really means that you're supporting slave labor on another continent. I'm guilty of it. I've been a Walmart shopper for a long time and I kind of know what I'm doing when I'm doing it.

I make an effort to buy things locally and yes They are more expensive, especially furniture.

I haven't yet weaned myself off of the cheap Chinese goods but I continue to remind myself that every time I partake of that temptation I'm taking another piece out of a good hard working American economy and contributing to the slave labor of China.

Tariffs help to curb that activity.

Why would anybody be happy about slave labor?

Traditionally Republicans have been blamed for taking advantage of the working class by paying low wages. This has always been a Democratic talking point.

What happened to the Democrats on the issue of Chinese slave labor? How many Democrats own iPhones? Probably most of them.

Just saying.

Nothing wrong with selective tariffs in targeted commodities. But tariffs against everyone creates a Trade War where everyone loses.

We had a good trade relationship with Canada and Mexico. We give eachother the best prices. Gives an advantage over the rest of the world.

China is our biggest economic threat. I would rather go against China with an economic partnership with Japan, S Korea, EU, Canada and Mexico ……than start a trade war one on one

I don't like tariffs or barriers in trade between nations. The problem is that other nations outside of the U.S are manipulating the system, conning U.S companies and enticing them with a devalued currency, cover operatives in companies, hidden taxes and barriers most don't recognize unless they are informed.

One policy no one can debate is reciprocal tariffs. How is anyone going to say "you are abusing our allies" when they simply match pound for pound the same tariffs and VAT surtax that other nations apply to the U.S. You are going to tell people "it's only ok for our allies to apply tariffs"?

It's a difficult issue because standards of living in different countries are different. The average American citizen would not do well in China.
They would have to become accustomed to doing with much less than they're used to doing. The average Chinese citizen learns to live with it.
Mixing the two economies will almost always result in an outflow from America. This is nearly inevitable. There is a theory called economic osmosis that operates basically the same way chemical osmosis does. The principles behind it It are nearly impossible to argue with.

Wouldn't do well in any country that doesn't allow huge consumer debt

But the people of China live within their means and are patient on allowing the communist government to raise them up out of poverty, faster than any other system has ever done. While Americans refuse to live within their means.

$18.036 trillion

As of the fourth quarter of 2024, America's total consumer debt stands at $18.036 trillion, marking a record high1. This includes various types of debt such as mortgages, auto loans, and credit card balances.

Or is it the huge income inequality that deprives Americans of adequate means?

All solid points

Most people just don't want to see all the prices go up, feeling abused enough, knowing it is the end consumer that pays the tariff in the form of higher prices, and concerned Donny will tank the economy.

During the 80s, 90s and until shotler! republic pols pushed hard to outsource and defended capitalists' chase of cheap labor. Hell, all of shitler! merch is made in Ghina.

BTW shitler! still doesn't know who pays the tariffs that he loves.

Debt leads to Inflation. Kill the debt one kills the inflation. Run away g'ment debt $pending appears to be the monster in the shadows. Our American constituency needs to constantly monitor our elected public officials as well as our bureaucrats 24/7. Every penny tracked, no secrecy/privacy allowed. No public employee unions. By our Constitution/BoR. It takes EFFORT to monitor our public servants 24/7 but it's needed to keep them out of debauchery like screwing the pooch on our American constituencies dime.

Can you please edit your posts for grammar and spelling errors?

None of it is clear on what you're trying to say.

Shotler? Shitler? Ghina?

Truth is we only have ourselves to blame actually. China is only servicing our base instinctual greed. I know when I look in the mirror I have to admit such things about myself.

China sells us stuff cheap
Tariffs only make it more expensive for consumers

Manufacturers will not flock to the US in response

Define what a runaway government debt looks like and post what percentage the deficit is to GDP.

Otherwise, your post is just a whine.

If cheap goods and services is the goal why pick only on blue collar workers?

Cut the pay of every white collar person in America, beginning with politicians and tv personalities
