Why people were skinny in the 70's

When I was a kid, we didn't have air conditioning in my house, so if you didn't want to die from heat stroke, you stayed outside in the shade! Wintertime was the only time you were in the house and that was only if it was raining, snowing or just too darned cold.
.

We had an elderly lady living next door who had the type of air conditioners that fit into the window, and she'd invite a kid over to help her with a chore, after which she'd give you a couple of cookies and a cold pop, and you'd get to sit with her in her living room while you ate and drank them. It worked well. She was a very nice old lady, good company, and you'd get the delight of sitting in her cool house, enjoying a rare treat, outside the sweltering Midwestern summer heat, while she got to enjoy some company and get a simple chore done.

Pleasant memory.
