Reading, math & so on and so forth. <---- Those basic lessons served our ancestors well when the average job was on a production line or farm. You didn't need specialized skills to get ahead in life then.
Then of course there is the absurdity of most traditional college majors....History, English, Theology and so on.
Todays students need the basics, yes. BUT almost more than that we need to be teaching our kids the skills that todays jobs demand. Simply throwing money at our education system is pointless when no pertinent skills are learned. Our kids graduate with barely the knowledge to do basic geometry and 0 knowledge on how computers are built or the software is written. Almoat every young person I know that knows anything about technology is self taught.
We need to stop forcing needless classes on our college students just for the sake of having enough credits to graduate and focus on the things needed to prosper in life.
History and all the other basic classes are important but no more so than other areas that are required in today's world to have a shot at success.
It's like having an oil leak in your car. Simply throwing more money into more oil solves nothing except bleeding your wallet. At some point you have to face the real problem. And money ISNT our problem.
