It seems like in the past two years space has become all the rage.
Not just TV too.
Has Elon Musk bribed some parts of Hollywood? Has SpaceX reignited interest in space travel? Has Earth gotten so bad that society is looking at space as a place to escape?
Either way I am not complaining. I remember back in the 2010-2014 period when there was little to no interest in space and sci fi. In the early 2010s passionate sci fi fans were quite vocal about the absence of anything with space travel on TV.
To Infinity and Beyond
"Rayguns and Rocket Ships" – Can Books Save Space Opera?
The Death of the Space Opera? - Ricochet
MIND MELD: Has Space Opera Lost Its Luster?
Why We Need More Space Adventures
What happened to society in the early 2010s?
It seems like the 2008 financial crisis caused much of society to struggle to get by and to this day a lot still struggle so many people have the right to be cynical for the future but there seems to be a good portion of society that is perfectly happy with the status quo. Big house in a safe suburban neighborhood, a family, vacations to Disney World and the Bahamas every year, etc. That is the upper Middle Class. That is the reality show demographic. Life on Earth is good enough already, so why dream of a "Star Trek" like future?
