Historically speaking, you are right. However, two wrongs do not make a right. I have 2 daughters who are now in their 50's. (I am 82 years old) When they were growing up I heard of affirmative action. I was concerned that my daughters would be denied entrance to college or a job because affirmative action.

Affirmative action actually is bad for blacks. Statistics show that many black students who should not have gone to Harvard, or other similar institutions of higher learning have flunked out. They were not prepared for what they encountered. They would probably have been more successful going to a community college or trade school.

You wre born in 1944. YOU grew up benefiting from racial preference. What you are saying is that as long as whites get to benefit from race, you're fine with it. I don't want to hear that two wrongs mess. The first wrong should not have happened. The quality of life you wee able to give your daughters is a direct result of Jim Crow. White women were the main recipients of Affirmative Action, so your daughters went to college because of it.

Absolutely wrong! All people should have equal opportunity. Deliberately choosing a white person over a black person because of their skin color was wrong. Deliberately choosing a black person over a white person is equally wrong. Two wrongs do not make a right!

Equal opportunity doesn't happen when one group has a 200-year head start by just saying all people should have equal opportunity. You aren't going to correct inequality based on race by not considering race as part of the solution.

The problem is defining "best qualified" in a racially neural fashion. Say that a University uses extracurricular sports as part of their determining best qualifications. They can rank the sports by income to the school. Where basketball and football add significantly to a students qualifications. And skiing, fencing, water polo, and squash add nothing.
