Why is it Mexico and Canada's fault if Americans like Fentanyl?

The routes that fentanyl enters the US along have not changed.

Nor did they ever have anything to do with immigrants trying to cross the border. This is a racist myth.
The cartels and gangs will use anyone and any method to get drug into the U.S.

We are currently just attacking boats. You want to do more? Fine by me with due notice to Maduro.
I guess my position, Albeit a cynical one is that we wouldn't have the problem without the demand.
As long as somebody wants to pay for that shit there will always be someone trying to find a way to sell it to them.

It would be nice if it were that simple. I happen to agree that if you overdose that is your own f-ing problem and you should be on your own. My daughter is a paramedic and spends a lot of her time dealing with people abusing drugs. She could actually be helping people who deserve it rather than some dirtbag wanting to get high.

My concern is for children who think the drugs are candy and others who come in contact with the drugs accidentally, like first responders, like her. If you flood the streets with more drugs, that has a natural tendency to occur more often.

Well who is bringing the fentanyl into our country? The vast majority of fentanyl do,ing into the US arrives in container ships on the west coat or passes through customs concealed in freight trailers and bu;k transport.
Most fentanyl reaches the US in container ships or is stowed in freight cars passing through customs.

There is no logical reason whatsoever for drug runners to use individuals crossing a hostile border and winding up who knows where to move fentanyl.

Not when they have a relatively safe, consistant and reliable regular means of shipment.

How can I possibly argue with that?

That's because it's the only plausible way to deal with the problem. We don't like those kinds of solutions.
It’s not plausible if it doesn’t work.

What treatment has ever worked for the majority of addicts? Generally speaking, we can’t even get “beds” in drug treatment facilities sufficient for those who already seek treatment or want it in lieu of prosecution.
As long as the market exists, supply will be sought.
We need to fix the culture, fast.
But that’s hard to do when the problem isn't even allowed to be discussed.
Needing to fix the culture is indeed part of the cure. But fast? After all this time I’d say we’ve already established it isn’t going to happen very fast.

The problem absolutely should be discussed.

It got bad real fast. About one generation.
It can be fixed just as quickly.

Not according to experts in addiction and not according to what I’ve seen of addicts.

I like the positive attitude. I just don’t see it as realistic. I wish it was.

Look at how quickly smoking and tobacco were marginalized. Depends upon the messaging.
(Hypocritically, the same people who have been conditioned to clamor about tobacco smoke seem fine with pot smoke. Tobacco with a psychoactive dangerous drug attached.)

First things first. We need new laws tailored for actual solutions.
Take the money out the drug business by detaining users for periods of time. No treatment needed. When drug use declines there will be resources for actual treatment.

We need to prioritize our societal problems as well, first addressing the ones that we have solutions for. This too will free up resources to tackle the next one on the list.

However, realistically nothing substantial will be done about any of our major problems. We will just have to live with them as best we can. :( It's every man for himself I'm afraid.

The time for more talk is long past.
Nobody suggested that talking fixes addiction. Treatment fixes addiction.

The time for talking apparently passed 40 years ago, when we started our inane war on drugs. Unless you would like to argue that waging the same war for 40 years, with no progress, means we are winning that war. Be my guest.

The time for state sponsored violence and imprisonment is what has obviously passed. We set all the world records, and it didn't work.

Take the L, and let's move on.

We have made an industry out of the so-called 'drug war' (and every other problem we have), we haven't fought it.
