Why don't you support reparations for slavery, Blacks are very restless

Very listless are the demanders

Why do you oppose reparations?

You do know that the more there is no consideration of reparations, the race issue will never go away?
the race issue will never go away, there will always be bigots and racist....probably even more so if reparations are paid....

It is not a matter of buying the blacks off, bub. They have had reparations sent their way for decades. None of them were slaves and none of us were slave owners. If anything, the blacks owe us for reparations for all the damage they have done to America.

weather ipso facto.webp

Why should I pay for something I had nothing to do with, nor did any of my ancestors?
I will guarantee you this: if reparations are ever commanded, it will lead to things you cannot imagine.

Gee Grover, how much do you feel you deserve?

I oppose reparations for slavery because I never owned slaves. I had relatives that fought and died for the Union (I’m really from Akron, don’t tell my neighbors). Where is the reparations for their lives that were lost?

You do know that if people were paid reparations for wrongs that happened to their ancestors, it would quickly be spent by the overwhelming majority of them. Then they would then demand more and blame whites for their having gone through it so quickly.

After all, saving money is a white privilege.

Any discussion about reparations for slavery should begin with the circumstances and setting that slavery began in.

Africa.

With the black Africans swho rounded up and sold their own people into slavery.

When they (their decendants) are finally forced to pay reparations, it could maybe trickle down from there.

When I was in the service, a good friend of mine, was the guy who always and I mean always found a silver lining in every situation. One day we were sitting around the CP, just us officers, I think there were probably 8 or 10 of us sipping coffee. Someone outright called him on this. He said there’s always good in a situation. That young 2LT said, “Oh yea, what was good about slavery?” Without missing a beat, my friend looked at him and said because of the sacrifices our ancestors made, I was born in America. My children were born in America. It was not what anyone expected.

Because reparations won't do anything.

Use such money to improve education, job opportunities etc great, just handing out cash to people, bad idea

I could see reparations for African Americans who lived under legal segregation, similar to the internment of Japanese Americans during WW2.

I support reparations to every living American who was enslaved, paid by the living person who enslaved them.

My question is simple.
I'm first generation American both sides of my family came to America after 1915.
We had nothing to do with slavery in America in fact some in the family were interned at the beginning of WWII, even if it were for a short period of time.
Why should we be forced to pay reparations to others because their great grandparents were slaves?
Should the descendants of slave holders be solely responsible for the payment of reparations and not the nation?
