I am on a high-level aviation message board with roughly 50% of the members being overseas. It is pilots, engineers, mechanics, etc. There has been much discussion about the tariff situation, and what comes through is a great deal of anger and resentment toward the United States. The sentiment is almost universal amongst the Europeans. This has me wondering why?

I presented a number of facts to these posters regarding the resentment.

1. America essentially won two World Wars for Europe that Europe started.

2. America largely helped rebuild Europe after WWII.

3. America has paid the vast portion of NATO expense since WWII to defend Europe.

4. America has allowed Europe and the EU to have higher tariffs than the U.S. for decades because the U.S. wanted "to help" Europe post World Wars.

I believe these are accurate facts. If anyone disagrees, or would like to present their own facts, please do. And yet despite this, Europeans appear very angry that the U.S. is asking for a fair playing field regarding trade and tariffs. Why? Is it delusional thinking? Should Europe be grateful to the U.S. for our help over the last 100 or so years?

Why is Europe so resentful toward the U.S?

IMO, being grateful, requires a high degree of intellectual maturity and moral courage.

It is HARD to put yourself, in your own mind, in debt to another.

It is EASY to become ENTITLED, and to justify an advantage or an unfair position based on some rationalization.

Europe today, is infected with the same type of lefty thinking that the dems are part of.

Such thinking is the OPPOSITE of mature or brave.

So, they fail to be able to do that.

I just posted about when I was in Amsterdam the hotel night clerk went off on me about Cuba.

I asked if he ever been there...he said no. Than I asked him if he has ever spoken with a Cuban-America. Than I baffled him when I asked why Dade County is full of republicans that are ESLs.

BTW: I'm guessing a lot of snotty people go to high-level aviation message boards...they need to focus on something (like hating Israel when not being able to talk 15 minutes of facts) thus thier hate is bred.

Jealousy, inferiority complex. Look at Tommy Taint here.

For the same reason liberals hate Jews: they are resentful of their greater overall success.

It is what you represent that angers them, its the same in Canada and the inferiority complex and abuses by authorities against citizens here, You believe in liberty and the American dream these sobs believe in elitism, where they can spend their citizens money on their fancy dinners and in which one must remain in their caste.

The success of the Pursuit of Happiness which America offers is illustrated in those becoming wealthy even when born poor. In Europe you are born poor and will die poor. Think back 250 years and how many more inventions were borne in America. Europe lost their Renaissance Period, reverting back to the very monarchies they once overthrew but this time in the form of a permanent ruling class, no outsiders allowed.

Get closer to Japan and S Korea, Europe is in deep decline. Even when Macron loses an election he still runs the place, they reward mediocrity.

Really insightful post. Thank you.

Because they know they are still dependent on America for their economy and defense. Their elitism is their only claim to superiority.

Joseph's brothers hated him and sold him into slavery. Only when Joseph saved them from famine did they give him the love and respect due. Europe, mostly the descendants of those brothers, still need America, Joseph/Manasseh, but are still resentful.

And they continue to have problems with Britain (Joseph/Ephraim).

A little Bible stuff there.

Less than half a million Americans died during WWII, and only about 60K died in Europe; 8.7 million Russian soldiers died during WWII. Perhaps your view of "America essentially won" is a tad bit skewed by where you were raised.

If there is anger toward the US, perhaps it is because the US is the richest country on the planet with vast natural resources, and Trump and the right are acting like America is a choir boy economically fondled by an EU priest or something. They are the ones bearing the brunt of the Russian sanctions already and Trump wants to pile onto their economies which have just barely begun to move forward from COVID, inflation, and sanctions. If I were them I would tell us to fuck off and just ban all american imports and be done with it.

America has not dealt with Covid, inflation, or sanctions? Really? Fascinating perspective you have there. And if Europe wants to tell the U.S. to fuck off by all means. Europe runs a huge trade surplus with the U.S. and is in a far weaker position economically than the U.S.

Without the U.S. to protect and economically support Europe you would have collapsed long ago. You literally owe your lives to America and the American taxpayer.

And as far as WWII....yes Russia lost a lot of people. But the America people sent Russia billions in military aid to help win the war, as we did Britain and others. Without American lives, money, and support Europe would be gone as we know it. So, your point fails somewhat, doesn't? :)

I am an American, US aid does not change that the Russians lost over a hundred soldiers to every one America lost, and the leading EU exports to the US is literally blood and blood fractions, followed by drugs.

Penis Envy

Yeah, in the hegemony of the World it is the U.S., China, Russia, and Europe in that order. Europe is not irrelevant, but it is not nearly as important as it thinks it is, or wishes it was.

Why Does Europe Resent and Hate the United States?

¿Because US-Russians continuously speak out the worst "US-American" nonsense and most absurd hate messages?

There has been much discussion about the tariff situation, and what comes through is a great deal of anger and resentment toward the United States.
You answer your own question in the OP.

... 1. America essentially won two World Wars for Europe that Europe started.

Why are you continuously envolved in wars?

2. America largely helped rebuild Europe after WWII.

You made a lot of money with world war 1+2 - and Europe payed for.

3. America has paid the vast portion of NATO expense since WWII to defend Europe.

What's a totally absurd nonsense. You blocked all ways for Europe to get better defence systems and sold you relativelly bad and expensive weapons to Europe because of NATO-compatibility.

4. America has allowed Europe and the EU to have higher tariffs than the U.S. for decades because the U.S. wanted "to help" Europe post World Wars.

Trump cancelled the TTIP negotiatisons long ago. Trump not agrees with 0% tariffs for industrial products now.

[I believe these are accurate facts.

Accurate? Sorry ... I'm the German realist. You are an US-American dreamer. Meanwhile you dream artificial nightmares.

If anyone disagrees, or would like to present their own facts, please do. And yet despite this, Europeans appear very angry that the U.S. is asking for a fair playing field regarding trade and tariffs. Why?

Because the USA is the most unfair trader in the world following exclusivelly only self made rules which are changed when anyone else makes money. Example: Your politics "America to the Americans" is a disaster since centuries. Meanwhile you think only the USA is America.

Is it delusional thinking?

It's not thinking at all. It's just simple stupid to believe in the own stupid lies of the own war propaganda of all wars you ever did do. The Confederates for example had been much better soldiers than the Unionists. How I do know? They killed as many Unionists as Unionists killed Confederates - but the Confederates had much less soldiers and the Unionists better weapons.

Should Europe be grateful to the U.S. for our help over the last 100 or so years?

Why is Europe so resentful toward the U.S?

Germany is resentful because of your unbelievable number of war crimes which you did do in Germany? The East European people are resentful because you sold them to your ally Stalin? ... Little Mr. Absurdity: no one in Europe is a bad loser - you are just simple a bad winner ... and ... better not to say this. But if I would be you I would be not proud to be an "American" = citizen of the USA.
