Looking back at the history of Vice Presidential picks, at least in modern day politics, it would appear that the VP pick almost always later comes back to bite the President or their party on the rear in the end.

Going all the way back to Reagan, Bush Sr. was arguably the best of the worst because he won one term after Reagan stepped aside. But he only won one term, and then gave us "W" who basically ran the party into the ground and caused voters to go fleeing to Obama. "W" gave us the continuation of the Iraq war and then Afghanistan, and then proceeded to oversee the economy going into the toilet. At the end of his term, everyone hated "W". Now "W" spends all his time convincing the world that voting Republican means you are a Nazi because he hates Trump.

Then came Clinton who picked Al Gore. Al Gore was so horrible, he lost to "W". Nuff said.

And who did "W" pick as a VP? That's right, Dan Quayle, the most disrespected VP in modern day history.

Next on the list is Biden himself. People often joked that the reason Obama picked Biden to prove he could win the Presidency without an actual VP. In fact, Biden had run for President since the 1600's and wound up pretty much dead last every time due to his culmination of gaffs, blatant lies, and plagiarism. Biden was so bad, in fact, Obama refused to endorse him for the Presidency and today is openly favoring he leave office and not run again. The entire DNC is in disarray over him. Unfortunately, Biden is still the same man, only, he can't walk and talk anymore.

So, why is this? I think it has to do with picking someone that is lesser than you are, which is why Biden picked Kamala Harris who is hated worse than Joe according to polls, and is I think the main reason Biden is not inclined to step down. Simply put, you don't want to let that VP pick outshine you in any way cuz it is all about YOU! Problem is, they become the front runner of sorts for the party, a front runner that is going nowhere, or if they do win the Presidency like Bush Sr., it will wind up destroying the party in the end.

Uhm. W picked Dick Cheney, it was Bush 41 that picked Quayle.

People in positions of power want non-threatening alternatives I suppose. Reagan cose GHWB. They were a pretty strong battery.

Reagan/Bush
Bush was a good VP and eventual President

Bush/Quayle
Quayle was laughably bad

Clinton/Gore
Gore was a good VP and should have been President

Bush/Cheney
Hated Cheneys politics and power but he was a good VP for Bush

Obama/Biden
Biden was a good VP and eventual President

Trump/Pence
Pence had no responsibility and Trump wanted him hung

Biden/Harris
Harris has contributed nothing

Woops! My bad.

And what can we say of Dick? He was perhaps more hated than "W".

And Cheney's daughter? This only goes to drive home my point.

Just like "W", the Cheney family is pure poison. The Bush family was chosen by Reagan to try and bring the Rhino's in with the conservatives.

Yea, that never works out well.

I had no idea you were a racist misogynist monster.

Who knew?

:laughing0301:

Actually, Harris had a job, only one job, and that was being a czar of the border.

I'd say she was very successful with promoting immigration into the country, don't you?

Bush Sr. before Reagan picked him was at the bottom of the barrel, coming in last for the Presidential bid. He was nothing without Ron.

His entire family was democrat light and an abject disaster in the end.

Vice Presidents are picked for partisan political/electoral reasons, i.e., to "balance the ticket" or "win their state", rather than for specific qualifications.

Since partisan politics soils everything it touches, the results of these picks are fairly predictable.
Then who will Trump pick?

Hmm?

We see how well the Pence pick went, which just prove my point.

But the Trump pick this time is more consequential, since Trump can't run a third time.

It literally will be the front runner for 2028.

But again, he will pick another dud because that is simply the way it is.

Bush Sr came in second in the Republican Primaries
He was well respected in the party

He was a god VP for Reagan

That is not how I remember it.

Anyhow, as I said, he was perhaps the strongest of the weak selections, but his son ended up destroying them all.

I suspect Trump will break the mold and pick the person he thinks will best help him advance his right wing, strongman-based, authoritarian, pseudo-religious agenda.
Who is?

You have idea, even though you just said it was so predictable

But whoever it is, that pick will be the person no matter what. People like you will see to that.

I don't agree with the premise that defeat of these VP in their presidential aspirations displays that they were disastrous. Americans are generally middle-of-the-road when it comes to politics and going back to Eisenhauer we have applied a pattern of keeping in the mainstream by not empowering one party for an extended period.

President Reagan would have been better off choosing a solid conservative like Sen. Jesse A. Helms who was a visionary and a real expert in foreign affairs which was really needed during the Cold War.

States like New York and California have become all one sided and is the mold for the entire country.

Things have changed.

Democracy now means only one party, the DNC party.

Newsome is in the wings to see that this happens.

The new cult is not about personality, it is about the party which may mean that future VP picks will not be important at all.

Nothing wrong with Quayle or Cheney as VP. Don't accept the MSM narrative
What I'm saying is, Quayle was a big zero in terms of charisma and communicating politically. He had no political future as such no matter how wonderful he may have been for the country. Remember, perception becomes reality and people are basically stupid, so you must be likeable.

Cheney..............um................er................when I first saw Cheney I had one thought, there is a real SOB. LOL. And with his daughter, you can see it more clearly. The entire Iraq conflict was mismanaged and idiotic. And alas, his likability rating is probably worse than Kamala.
