Why do repubs insist on tax breaks for the wealthy but insist on ending income tax credits for...

...the poor?

I'm dying to know.

The tax code was never intended to be a welfare program, that's why.
So...why doesn't that apply to the wealthy? Subsidies? Loopholes? Breaks?
A guy who makeones a million a year, after credits and legal deductions will pay about 220,000 in income tax. Someone reaching that salary typically is at the age where his kids are grown and he's paying to send them to college.
Those getting EITC on the other hand are likely to have 4 kids in public school, they're collecting food stamps, subsidized housing and medicaid.
Now the poor family is paying sales taxes on their skittles and big macs but it costs society 60 or 70 thousand a year in education and "entitlements.
Both the rich guy and the poor folk are pretty much equal in their benefit from infrastructure fire and police services.

So why the fuck is the rich guy paying the freight for 3 or 4 poor families?
What's fair about that?

It is about benefit from society.

The rich benefit most from society. Here is a tip, what would America be like with nearly a gun for every adult in your society and people on the street starving?

I think some of the RW hear need to go to a place like South Africa and see the violence that results. Car Jackings are so common place you don't stop at traffic lights at night, people live on compounds surrounded by electric fencing and armed guards and don't walk streets at night. You can't flag a taxi on the street. Crime is rampant and Security costs a fortune.
The isolated farming communities have daily occurance of sieges in their family homes on average one a day.
Major city centers are no go areas after dark.

I have lived there 10 years ago.

Hi CowboyTed
and most RW I know would blame crime on the poor who are not taught or rewarded
for taking ownership in their cities and country.

Do you see the common pattern?

How is it is any better to blame the rich for being rich, without due process to prove WHICH wealth
corporate interests DID the crimes or abuses that cost taxpayers money.
That is just as wrongful to blame the poor for being poor, without proof of WHICH were the ones committing crimes!

Instead of trying to punish people by class, rich blaming poor and poor blaming rich,
go after the actual crooks who commit crimes and abuses at taxpayer expense.

As long as big lawyers make big money off defending big crooks who are never held responsible
for paying back the costs of corruption, and as long as poor crooks fill up our prisons and courts
and cost us money off crime, the taxpayers are the ones who get punished by paying these bills.

Why keep punishing law abiding taxpayers by taking this expense out on us?

If all parties teamed up, made a laundry list of everything that needs to be cleaned up,
and backed each other on going after the crooks, maybe we'd finally get somewhere.

But if the party politics keeps making billions off pitting one up against the other, we all lose.
And the corporate financiers keep playing this game at taxpayer expense, buying out both parties.
How long can we afford this to go on?

But this is where the problem lies....

Many people didn't want to pay for the Iraq War. How does that work?

The GOP was happy spending trillions on a failed war and Dem want to spend money of Education at home.

I don't want to pay for the welfare state or subsidies to unions or bailout of GM or any other transfer of money from the people that earn it to those idiots that didn't earn it. That sucks.

The Democrats wants to buy votes from the welfare queens that too sorry to get off their fat asses to work and real conservatives want to put an end to this bloated out of control corrupt government excessive spending.

The Democrats want to feed the bloated teachers unions and continue to pour money into a failed education system that cost the most in the world but has the most dismal test results.

By the way, if you don't want to fund the Iraq War then why did you vote for Obama because he fought it for three years, spending hundreds of billions of dollars and then proclaimed that it was a success. Now the sonofabitch is reintroducing ground troops and has resumed bombing.

You made a mistake voting for Obama, didn't you?

Actually, on several occasions Congressional Republicans have proposed increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) instead of raising the minimum wage, since raising the EITC would target those low-wage workers who are supporting families with their income and/or who are working in low-wage jobs on a long-term basis, and since at the same time raising the EITC would ease the labor costs for businesses and enable more young people and other part-time or seasonal workers to get low-wage jobs.

But the Democrats have rejected that deal every single time.

The minimum wage is a job killer, as even some government studies have shown. When I worked at a car wash and the minimum wage took a big jump upward, the car wash laid off about one-third of the workers because it simply did not have a profit margin that could support paying the new wage to all the workers.

As for tax breaks for our businesses, we have the second highest corporate income tax rate in the world and one of the highest repatriated income tax rates in the world, and then liberals whine about businesses parking trillions of dollars overseas. You want that money back here? Then cut the corporate and repatriated income tax rates down to sane levels. You can't love employees and hate employers.
