This one is a tough one for me, because I tend to loathe corporations, feeling they, with their minimum wage, are the slave masters of our present era. I prefer business to be local, not nationwide, partnerships not corporations with their government lobbyists. But facing reality...the right wing alleges to be for Capitalism not socialism on a national basis;
whatever shall we do,
in that Case?
Democrat Ro Khana, Congressman from the Silicon Valley area of California, does have some good ideas. He questions why these Silicon Valley corporations and billionaires are outsourcing jobs overseas rather than outsourcing them to the 'flyover' parts of their own country. Another issue: It was recently determined some corporations are guaranteeing their delivery people (i.e. Instacart) $10 per delivery--but the delivery person's tip is calculated into that $10. Instead of billions more into personal coffers, why not raise the rates of workers, instead of playing Scrooge with them?
If our wealthiest businessmen would loosen their purse strings and rein in their own greed so that their fellow countrymen can see them as generous, philanthropic countrymen who provide substantial salaries for good workers, these workers would be less hostile towards those who own mansions--even multiple homes--when they with two salaries or several roommates struggle to make the rent for an area the size of a rich man's entrance foyer.
What billionaires should remember is that they are vastly outnumbered by the poor. And when they exploit the poor, they can only expect one result--the poor will rise up in revolt. We don't need socialism. That is no cure. What we do need is for those who are excessively rich to grasp just how heavy their weight is on the backs of their workers--and that those workers are more than worth their wage. So is their country.
