I know Trump suggested the idea of annexing Canada to perturb liberals everywhere, but why aren't any Democrats supporting it? Annexing Canada would result in multiple new states and most of them would be like a new California / New York. It would be very hard for Republicans to win future elections with those theoretical states, despite the liberal factions both getting beatings in the USA and Canada recently. It's like the Dems' mass amnesty scheme but better.

Canada is more liberal than California.
With 40 million people it would have as many Congress members as California does today. Overwhelmingly liberal.
That would mean two Democratic Senators and over 30 Democratic Congressmen.
It would also mean 45 EVs for President going to the Democrats

The reason Democrats oppose it is because Canada does not want to belong to the United States

Trump has no intention of giving Canadians voting rights or Senate seats. We’d be like Puerto Rico. Our House Reps would have no votes. And we’d have no electoral or senate seats.

If 40 million liberals with 50+ House seats or electoral college votes and 2 Senate seats got in, Republicans would be fucked forever.

The only reason Conservatives EVER get elected in Canada is because we have 5 liberal parties in federal politics and they split the vote. We have 33 Leftist Members of the Bloc Québécois in Parliament whose goal is to take Canada out of Confederation and break up the country. That’s the same number of Liberal members of parliament from Quebec.

Trump has so pissed off the Quebecois, that they are now calling themselves “Proud Canadians” for the first time in history. The Liberal Party, which was looking to be washed right out of Parliament, is now leading in the polls.
