Why aren't Democrats welcoming the idea of annexing Canada?

Nonsense, if you had started a poll five years ago on how many Democrats wanted to annex Canada you'd get the same answer as today.

Most Americans don't want to annex other countries because there is a preferred world order where countries don't go around laying claim to other sovereign nations. That is the realm of dictators like Putin, and of course now also of Trump and his merry band of cultists.

I know Trump suggested the idea of annexing Canada to perturb liberals everywhere, but why aren't any Democrats supporting it? Annexing Canada would result in multiple new states and most of them would be like a new California / New York. It would be very hard for Republicans to win future elections with those theoretical states, despite the liberal factions both getting beatings in the USA and Canada recently. It's like the Dems' mass amnesty scheme but better.
