Why are oil prices what people judge Presidents for?

Why do people think that the President has much to do with the price of...anything? Why does a President have more control over the price of oil than, say, apples? And why does oil matter more than apples?

When was the last time someone looked at the price of corn and either clapped their hands or stomped their feet (depending on political orientations, of course) about whether the President was to credit/blame?

If we believe in a free market where prices are set by supply and demand, then why should prices be attributed to Presidents? And why some prices and not other prices?

Anyone know the price of cherries lately? Because I think lots of you are picking them no matter if they're ripe or not.

Presidential Executive Orders that change policies that directly affect oil prices which in turn affect the cost of all products resulting in 20% inflation is what a POTUS has to do with prices. Coupled with toying with WWIII while ignoring the invasion of our country by illegals from the south and dictatorial mandates on the populace over a 99.7% recoverable virus, the vegetable in the WH has earned every oz. of venom that is directed his and the democrats way.

OPEC +. ( a trump thing)

Look it up.
Affects Production LEVELS.
Therefore Affecting Global Prices.

Prove me Wrong.

Partisan ammunition only. Pick up any poo they can find and fling it.

Back and forth, back and forth, boring and predictable as hell.

People are judging Joe for his many, many screwups.

When the President damages supply and promises to eliminate fossil fuels, shouldn't he
get some of the credit for higher oil prices?

Even for you, that's really reaching. Usually you have posts that are really stretching things so you can paint the picture you want but this is out there even for you. Comparing the price of cherries to gas? Might as well try and argue about the price of a sharpie pen to medical expenses.

You're trying to be ultra literal as in saying "the president doesn't specifically say how much gas prices will be at the pump near you specifically".

The reality is the president's decisions do effect our gas prices indirectly. Their decisions set off a chain reaction that ends at the gas pump.

That's why gas was so cheap was the previous president had us setup quite well. Then the current president came in and said "I'm going to undo what the previous president did", then said he would declare war on fossil fuels, then hampered domestic oil production, then sold record amounts of our oil to China, then bought it from Russia for a markup, then stopped buying it from Russia and still won't open up domestic oil production. So no he didn't specifically price oil, but everything he has done put us exactly where we are right now. His policies and his decisions put us on this path. We warned about it last year from dozens of analysts examing his behavior and now it's happening.

If you failed to grasp that really, really obvious play on words then you really need an English lit class in your life.

It's just your question is dumb. Historically the most important commodities were controlled by public policy, all the way back to Rome where the price of bread was controlled by the republic, then the Emperor.

US controls the price of oil through its own manipulations. Biden fucked up.

Oil is today's bread for obvious reasons.

Speculators react to what they think will happen to oil prices, which in turn pushes prices in that direction. If an American president, for example, looks weak and ineffective while a Russian dictator convinces them he's serious about invading another country, they expect the ensuing war to cut world supplies of oil and push things accordingly. In fact, they all try to get out in front of the expected price increases, which in turn exaggerates the increase. That's how Quid Pro drove up prices, by making war more likely.

Short answer: Because that and his stutter is all they have to attack Biden with.

Long answer: He has no impeachable offenses yet - has not called and blackmailed any foreign officials - has not tried a Coup - so bitching about prices is all they have. And he stutters.

Yea, let's equate
Presidential Executive Orders that change policies that directly affect oil prices which in turn affect the cost of all products resulting in 20% inflation is what a POTUS has to do with prices. Yea, let's equate Putin's massacre in Ukraine with illegals crossing over the border. How many bombs have those brown people from C. America tossed your way, genius?

Granted some have criminal tendencies but it's a real stretch to claim the Ukraine invasion & borders crossers coming here should be mentioned in the same breath.

Go find yourself a good shrink.

He doesn't have a stutter. I've heard people who stutter, and they have a hard time saying certain sounds. They can, however, complete thoughts without wandering off into lala land like Quid Pro does. They can, in addition, complete sentences without bizarrely whispering like Quid Pro does. In short, they have a speech impediment, not a cognitive impediment. What Quid Pro has is something far different.
