Why are conservatives losing?!?!?

Hey clueless hack!

Who has control of the House and Senate? Who has the most state governors?

How are you that stupid and still able to use technology to broadcast your stupidity?

Who hasn't passed a single major piece of legislation advancing the conservative agenda in years? Oh right, the GOP.

Irrelevant. The OP said we were losing and have been. I proved it wrong. Fact.

You lost on same sex marriage. You lost on healthcare. You lost on gays in the military. You lost on abortion. You lost on tax cuts for the rich.

We won the Senate, we won the House, we won the most governorships. It still blows the OP out of the water.

I don't think 2 and 4 are a slam dunk for democrats.

The reason 2 hurts the right is because hardcore promoters do not believe in a compromise on the abortion issue. It is either a total ban, or a fight for a total.

4 it is hard to say we don't have gun control when we do have gun controo. Also, Democrats fail to explain how the new laws they propose 1) leave the rights of regular citizens unabridged and 2) keep guns out of the hands of lawbreakers. The best plausible I heard only will prevent guns from falling into the hands of mental patients. But that only curtails a very small percentage of mass shootings. Democrats do not seem to have an effective plan either.

By the way, the issue should not be called gun control since the focus is on criminals obtain guns. It does not matter how many gun nor what kind of firearms a person owns if he is a law abiding citizen.
It just does not matter, so stop arguing like it does.
I agree on the second amend issue. And, I agree that on abortion some people believe there should be absolutely no restriction on abortions, and those folks vote dem. But the dems get those votes even when they accept restrictions that the vast maj support, like no partial birth and parental or judicial ok for minors to get abortions. Yet, for some reason, the gop cannot compromise on stuff like morning after medication being routinely available. We are held hostage by a minority who view a zygot as having a right. I do not understand why that has to be.
Because it's a baby, a human with rights.

Republicans suck because XYZ.

Democrats suck because XYZ.

Most of you suck because you can't even do something as basic as provide your own food and water. :P

nope.webp

They still have a strong base, but they can't compete in the long run.

It comes down to 4 issues that turn the middle on them:
(1) Healthcare: I get it single payer and government run health insurance we 'hear' is a disaster, yet European countries will not do away with it any time soon. However you never get a plan other than status quo. I hear the sell across state lines bullshit, but those insurers have to follow state law and I guarantee this added competition wouldn't change a thing, but it is a great talking point. Second you hear health savings accounts. Which are already hear and while good aren't even close to the answer. Obaminationcare is bad but it at least go rid of the insurer practice of pre-existing condition riders (meaning once your sick no one would insure you), drop you after you get sick and skyrocket rates after you get sick. Obaminationcare is bad, but status quo was horrible also. Conservatives lose many middle class voters on this issue, because they never present any real plan.

(2) Abortion: You used to be able to hold the stance, ban on later term abortions and no abortions after 1 trimester except for rape, incest or mother's life is in danger. Now during the primaries the only acceptable stance is "no abortion, no exceptions. Not for rape or incest victims, not if the fetus has birth defects, not for teenagers and some won't even allow if the mother's life is in danger. Sorry but this turns off many independents and women.

(3) Higher Education: Most jobs require a college degree. The few that don't are lower paying and in shrinking industries, such as manufacturing. The fact of the matter is higher education cost upwards of $120k. Young people start their lives in a boatload of debt. These are voters who hear one side at least talk about trying to forgive debt, help pay for it and lower rates.

Then you have the GOP who complain about what the colleges charge and basically stop there. They wouldn't pass the bill to lower interest rates. While there are good arguments why they did that. Voters with student loan debt only saw that republicans voted against saving students money.

As Republicans continue to lose on this issue, they continue to create New Democrats.

(4) Gun control: Every mass shooting you hear, don't blame guns blame the perpetrators. True on many cases, but in reality many in the middle want a balance between gun ownership and safety.

Until Republicans start finding a way to solve these issues for the masses they won't compete I the swing states and further red states will turn blue like VA, CO and NV. Right now the only way for Trump to win is if he turns 1 of 2 left leaning state (PA or MI) and wins FL or OH.

Blast me if you want, but these are the 4 issues that the GOP needs to get serious about if they don't want to go the way of the Whigs.
The GOP is going the way of the Whigs.

The GOP IS the party of the Whigs.

The only reason that the GOP is predominant in certain states is because of its inherent racism and its local hot button propaganda, such as religious issues, rural issues, and tax cuts for the rich.

Barry Goldwater's John Birch Society is dying out and the GOP is dying out with it.

In the short term, however, hopefully the GOP can hang onto the Senate to be able to thwart what is coming from Hillary for the SCOTUS.

In the long term, whatever evolves to take the place of the GOP is hard to foresee.
Why are you equating conservative with Republican? They're not the same. Conservatives will always have a tough battle because it's hard to beat Santa Claus. The GOP is just a party that has members from all ends of the political spectrum.

Losing on the issues.

The fact that conservatives have LOST, for example, pretty much across the board on gay rights,

Well, this is not a "conservative" issue, it's a "social conservative" issue and you're confused by that. Libertarians are very much conservative but most of them supported gay marriage. From the philosophical conservative perspective, "gay rights" should be a matter for communities to decide for themselves without government intervention. That is what "individual liberty" is about. Social conservative is an ideology which resides under the banner of conservatism and is juxtaposed with social progressivism.

Additionally, you sound as if this was a football contest and your team has won the game. Culture and the issues surrounding culture are in constant flux and change generationally through the years, so the "game" is not over. Progressives won the initial round but hey... progressives won the initial round on prohibition back in the day... they even passed a constitutional amendment. I am not drawing an equivalence here, but it illustrates how culture changes sometimes. What we think is a good idea today, our children may disagree with years from now. As we continue to see the unraveling of traditions and further perversity being forced onto us through "equal protection" ...i.e.; trannies in the bathrooms, etc.... future generations may decide that it's not appropriate for government to be dictating this sort of thing and that it was a mistake to ever do that.

A social conservative is not a conservative.

Okay. You run with that.

I agree on the health insurance. i don't think it should be left up to the free market unless we start jailing those who get their campaign funds by serving billionaires before serving we the people.

Hey clueless hack!

Who has control of the House and Senate? Who has the most state governors?

How are you that stupid and still able to use technology to broadcast your stupidity?

And how did they get control of the House and Senate - Gerrymandering. Now that the SC has ruled that voters can petition to have districts drawn by geography, and that voters get to choose the candidate, not the other way around, we'll see how many seats Republicans hold by the end of the 2018 elections.

If you can't see that the Republican Party is totally fractured and is not going back together again any time soon, you are too stupid to be one person.

Moron. Nobody gerrymanders more than the democrats. The GOP is fractured but that is irrelevant to our discussion.
Bullshit. I'm sure you'll dispute this because it comes from a prestigious university rather than the hacks at Fox News but Republicans gerrymander way more than Democrats.

Gerrymanders, Part 1: Busting the both-sides-do-it myth

Democrat Corrinne Brown's district 5, the very definition of Gerrymandering:

Yes, they both do it but Republicans do it more often and more egregiously. Are you a Floridian and that's why you care about this particular case? I'm a Utahan and our wonderful GOP leadership launched an initiative a few years back called One Utah where they split the Democratic stronghold down the middle because the rest of Utah is so staunchly Republican. It was the most blatant bit of gerrymandering in the country. And fortunately it still failed.
