Cole had a really bad brain fart himself failing to cover 1st base that extended the inning.

This is what PO's me about these millionaire a-#oles! They'll remember when making a heroic play when contract time comes, but if ownership pts. out shortcomings, their ego's hurt! :stir: :mad:

I almost fell off my chair when Cole failed to cover first on that ground ball in the 5th. He HAD PITCHED OUT OF A BASES-LOADED JAM, and all he had to do was cover first. That was basically the whole reason for the loss, right there.

Cole's explanation was that the ball was spinning wildly and hit slowly so the 1st baseman should have come in and been close to the bag when he caught it. The 1B said he stayed back to make sure he gloved it. Either way, the pitcher HAS TO cover first on that play, and if the 1B waves him off, so be it, but he has to be in position to cover.

While I have no love for either team I thought it would have been super to watch the Yankees do something that and never been done before.

Parenthetically, the box score for Cole reads, zero earned runs, which is bizarre, but correct. No error was charged on his failure to cover.
While I agree tha Cole should have ran to first base, that was hardly the whole reason for the loss. All the errors, a balk, a catcher interference, the 3 goose eggs the Yankees' hitters put up in the last 3 innings, Wells & Rizzo 0 for 4. Torres 0 for 5, Kahnle allowing 2 earned runs > all played a part.

Overall, I'd say Cole's 6 strikeouts and ZERO EARNED RUNS ALLOWED into the 7th inning, was the best part of the Yankee's performance.

Yankee fans gave him a standing ovation.

Judge could have lost the ball in the lights, but Cole's error was really inexcusable. I coached baseball for years Little League and club. Pitchers are drilled to sprint to first base on ANY BALL hit to the first base side. Pressure breaks pipes and the Yankees pipe broke in game 5.

I wach the world series, even though I really have no team to root for. I live in Tampa, and there is so little interest in the Rays, their games are not even televised here, unless you buy a special TV package.

Every year, they have one of the the lowest attendances at their games in MLB. The reason is their ownership. These guys are businessmen looking to make money, and that's it.

They are th exact opposite of the teams of the past when great players like Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, and Stan Musial playd their whole careers with one team, and were paid well.

With the Rays, every time a player shows talent and good stats, they get rid of him. These guys hav zero sense of fan connection to the players. Most teams (who care about wining) get rid of their worst players. The Rays get rid of their best players, and top fan favorites. When they got rid of David Price, Ben Zobrist, and Joe Maddon, that was the last straw for me. These guys went on to be MVPs of world series with other teams.

This is the worst city in America to be a baseball fan. Hurricane Milton wrecked the roof of Tropicana Field. Just as well,

I watched a YouTube video of a huge homeless encampment on the other side of the street from where the Angels play. It was all alongside a long bike path, you can't even go to the ballpark in California and not see tent cities.

Even though from Chicago, I latched onto The Atl. Braves in the 80's watchng them on TBS cable back then! Even though perennial winners of the East in the 90's, even in the playoffs you'd see empty seats! If not for TV rights, how would they pay these ridiculous salaries to players who aren't even watched that much! The games are more like background noise while doing other things around the house! :stir: :dunno::D:abgg2q.jpg:
